Which is why I put him third!!!!!!!!!!!Lofthouse Lower wrote:Yeah but that's not how most people work, sadly.
He had a cracking two months, but that's not enough to win player of the year (unless you're Ginola or Giggs)

Robinson has a very good shout in terms of consistency - as does Holden. I've actually put Lee as in terms of tangible impact I think he's up there.

elmander not consistant enuffTombwfc wrote:Holden is obviously the correct answer.
Prufrock's reasoning for LCY being ahead of Elmander blows my mind, considering they've the same number of assists and he's got five times as many goals.
when was his last goal?

elmo is VERY consistent - apart from a forgiveable little blip where he scored a few goals....aussie_wanderer wrote:elmander not consistant enuffTombwfc wrote:Holden is obviously the correct answer.

York. Only Davies, Rodrigo and Sturridge have scored since.aussie_wanderer wrote:elmander not consistant enuffTombwfc wrote:Holden is obviously the correct answer.

If you base it on the last month they're all shit.

Remind me how many people in the PL have scored more than him fron open play that cost less?aussie_wanderer wrote:elmander not consistant enuffTombwfc wrote:Holden is obviously the correct answer.

That would be Nolan - who was shit, and Tim Cahill.
Re: Player of the Season 2010/11
Holden's been the most consistent performer so far but this is all a bit early. It's not beyond Lee to get a few more goals and assists which would put him right up there and if Elmander scores a few more he'd seriously have to be in contention despite his recent crapness.

The world class Anelka, had one more goal than Elmander currently has, by early Jan when we sold him. Other than goals, Anelka didn't add much. For the remainder of the season, he added another goal to his tally, to get to 12. So I suppose another 3 for Elmo, he'll be in the same superhero category. Unless you happened to be a completely biased person.Whookam wrote:Holden's been the most consistent performer so far but this is all a bit early. The Anelka that plays now does - he drops a lot deeper in games to pick up the ball and uses it well, but I think you're right here as I don't remember him doing that for us. But I may be wrong.Worthy4England wrote:The world class Anelka, had one more goal than Elmander currently has, by early Jan when we sold him. Other than goals, Anelka didn't add much. Doubtless you will be, with the benefit of hindsight.Wandering Willy wrote:The Anelka that plays now does - he drops a lot deeper in games to pick up the ball and uses it well, but I think you're right here as I don't remember him doing that for us. Anelka...every time he came in our half my arse could've cracked a nut. He was Petrov-esque in our half. He was also shit hot in their half.
Elmo can't be player of the year coz by its definition it's of the year.

Re: Player of the Season 2010/11
But still.....
August - 2 goals
September - 1 goal
October - 2 goals
November - 3 goals
December - 1 goal
January - 1 goal
Add in the fact that he's our joint top assist-er and the only reason he's on 0 and Robinson is on 10 is that..... well I don't even know what it is. Punishment for not scoring goals for two years? The fact that he's a bit of a foreign tart?
You talk about it being over the whole season, well there's only been 6 months, and in three of them he's scored two or more goals, all from open play. Only Petrov and Davies have managed more than two in the entire season, with a massive three and four goals respectively from open play.
I suspect he's in a bit of a Megson-like situation, where he's past the point of no return with the fans and the goalposts will continually move in order to classify him as shit.

Re: Player of the Season 2010/11
Well summed up for me Tom. He's generally having a pretty good season and occasionally goes missing for a game/part of a game - like most of our other players. That happened with Anelka too, but the chances of half of our lot looking at it objectively are slim.Tombwfc wrote:But still.....

Minds have been made up, that he's a bit shit, so despite evidence to the contrary this season - he's a bit shit.

Holden has been quality in pretty much every game.... it's only because the rest of the players around him have been shite to support Holden's play!

I'll give Jussi a mention. People only seem to see his failings but he keeps us in a lot of games by some superb saves when the defence is all over the place. Time will tell.

Or you happen to think Anelka would have bagged a few more for us that season! I reckon he'd have done 16 or 17 he was justing use to what we were throwing himWorthy4England wrote:The world class Anelka, had one more goal than Elmander currently has, by early Jan when we sold him. Hypothetical. On a factual basis, he went to a team with probably the best midfield in the prem - and bagged another 1.Hoboh wrote:Or you happen to think Anelka would have bagged a few more for us that season! What you reckon is irrelevent. What happened, happened.
The season before when he had a full season for us - he didn't get 16 or 17.
