On one hand he has the potential to be a very good player. On the other, we've already got two very good injury prone midfielders and CMC would only be a third.

One positive is that we could get him fairly cheaply. Compo wouldn't reach seven figures and a fit Chris McCann is certainly Premier League quality.
On what basis? He played all of 7 games in his only Premier League season.

Regardless, we need one midfielder but we need one who is both competant and capable of playing 38 games a season.

That's obviously the risk.

Same when we brought Mark Davies over I suppose, never proven himself in the PL and had problems with injuries.

So far I'm not sure whether you'd judge it as a good signing or not, he's obviously got ability that far preceedes his 1M price tag, but he's not the sort of player you can rely on for 30 games a season. Probably be the same with McCann. Although having watched a fair number of Burnley games a couple of years ago, I'd defintely see why Coyle wants him back.

It's always going to be tricky bringing in players but CM is such a crucial part of Coyle's team that we need a cheap, ball-winning midfielder who we know is going to stay relatively injure free.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure I'm ready for another McCann.

Mark Noble? Would be available if Spammers go down

Does anyone rate their young forward Zavon Hines? He hasn't played much but looked good when I've seen him. The one Spammer I know says he's never got the chance because they brought in Ba and Obinna

Don't know about Noble but I'd take Ba.

Mark Noble would be a pretty good signing for anything less than 5M. Although I read somewhere they wanted 8M for him!!

We've been shafted for signing players from relegated sides before.

Unless you're talking N'Zogbia....

after littlescottyparker Noble is the one the spammers say they love most.... he's been there his entire footballing career - it'd be a big step for him to leave - and I can't see them letting him go on the cheap!

We wont get the likes of Noble and NZogbia, they'd cost too much, more likely players like McCann, Pratley and others from championship and abroad. The only proven premiership players we will get are out of contract free transfers.

Unfortunately for them unless a bidding war started they don't really have much choice they are £120m in debt and Gold has suggested that 8 players will be leaving if they do go down

hadn't seen that... but I suspect there'd be quite some interest in Noble...

didn't Karen Brady say the other day that they had planned against the possibility of relegation and there would not be a fire-sale - and there was nowt for the poor little spammer fans to worry their (not so) pretty little heads about even of they did get relegated..

She did but then Gold has kind of over ruled her because he's said in the Mirror today that he's going to have to pump maybe £40m of his own money in to make the debt more manageable. Then promptly said this would include upto 8 players going from the squad with Parker being the most high profile

And unless we spend this summer we're going to end up in the same situation as both Wigan and West Ham.

According to the West Ham fan I know, Noble is shit.

Seeing as he also thinks that they "should have ripped Liverpool's bloody hands off for that stump Cole", that Upson is biz, and Green overrated, I'm inclined to trust his judgement.

I don't disagree - I just don't think they'll be looking to offload him on the cheap cos he is "West Ham through and through... he bleeds West Ham...." and the nauseating rest... etc..
