Whelan is kicking up a fuss saying we quoted him 3M at the beginning of the season, so he won't pay a penny more now.

Unless he had anything legally written in stone that we had to release him for that amount, then he's naive, or completly bonkers, to think that price was non-negotiable and if Ali had a good loan, that we wouldn't ask for more.

What it does confirm however, is that all of Coyle's "oh we've no intention of selling Ali, we just want him to go and get some games and experience" was complete bullshit.

Not really.

No-one knew if Ali was up to a no.1 shirt at a Prem club, so they stuck the £3m in there as an insurance policy in case he ended up being ace.

It's fair enough to argue that £3m might end up looking low, but to call bullshit is a bit much.

I could have told you he was ace before he went to Wigan, not sure why someone at the club couldn't tell Coyle that.

Not that that really makes sense anyway. If we had any intentions of keeping him past the summer as Coyle said before, during and after the period of Ali's loan then we wouldn't have quoted them a price.

If he's crap then Wigan wouldn't have wanted to pay 3M. If he's awesome then we'd want more than 3M.

If we had every intention of bringing him back next year, we wouldn't have quoted them any price. We'd have said, you can have him on loan, and if you want him, we'll have to revisit it next summer because we might want him back.

Well maybe Coyle prefers his own opinion, and Ali was (rightfully) getting restless? Maybe he said he wouldn't sign a new contract under any circumstances cos he'd had enough of being second pick?

Regardless, he wants to leave, and we could do with £3m odd

Except that if you believe the BN not selling him and Cahill is stalling our other business. Can't hang round quibbling forever and Wigan know this!

Yep and we dont want to cut our nose off to spite our face...i think at some point soon we'll accept a compromise (which will favour Wigan more, naturally) but see it as a good excuse to keep our pride somewhat intact and take the lower offer.

Surely one million is not a deal breaker in this day and age?

Depends on the price of the player. For someone being bought for a large sum, a difference between, say, £19M and £20M wouldn't be a deal breaker. But for a relatively small sum like £4M, only taking £3M is knocking off a quarter of the fee. It's all relative, innit?

It's £3m plus incentives. It's not a straight £4m. We haven't moved the yardstick.

In any event, Whelan says last year we quoted them £3mil. That's not an agreement. If they wanted him at last years price, they should've bought him last year.

Just sell him to Villa. For £3mil.

Wouldnt using Al Habsi plus some cash be interesting if we dare to put in a bid for N'Zogbia? or is he overated? Left footed speedy winger at his peak...

He's not overrated, except perhaps by himself. I suspect he'll end up at a bigger club than Bolton, if he leaves Wigan. In his head, we're a sideways step

he's right as well, only finished a place or two above wiggin in the end.

Al HAbsi...Whelkan can feck off - £3mil last summer when he hadn't played some games......I'd be pimping him to McLeish at Villa, in fact i'd sell him to villa for less than I'd sell him to those inbred c*nts at wiggin.....i'd be happy enough without their money if it hurt them in the playing department. wankers.

He is quoted £3m for a player with about 12 Prem games. A year later after playing another 30+ games and being voted player of the season he thinks we are committed to the same £3m.

He really is a mad feck-wit isn't he.

Seeing as how Wiggun's back-up choice for keeper was Westwood from Coventry who's now gone to Soondaland, I say stick to our guns and let em see if they can find another keeper of his class for less than 4m.

The problem with all this "sticking to our guns stuff" is that come August and we've only signed Pratley, having Al Habsi as our third keeper will not help us with our toothless attack or leaky defence!
