Also, SKD is far too slow to be a center half.

I'd have thought Coyle's tenure was the ideal chance to actually move on and make sure that we can cope without Davies. Feels to me that clinging on year after year to an ageing striker who is never prolific is a bit dangerous as one day we'll suddenly have to go cold turkey. A gradual change makes more sense to me.
How does giving him one more year after this not fit with a gradual change? Bearing in mind our only other actual striker has one kidney I'd be quite happy to have even Sir Nut's vision of Davo at least knocking around next year!

Unless Davo's contract is up, (is it?) a one year extension could mean two years left yet. For me, no sweat. He may well have a super season despite Sir Nut, Caps and BWFCi helping him hang his boots up.

If I was a dirty, greasy, know-it-all pedant I'd point out that he's got three kidneys. But I'm not. Because you know as well as I do that whilst Davies is here and captain he's in the team come hell or highwater. And also "unsubbable". For me I'd have waited till some point during the season before looking to add another year on. I'd not rule the possibility out, but you know sign him up now and then he continues with his form from the backend of last season.....won't seem such a great move! I'd like to see Davies under pressure for his place but giving him "first go" at contract renewal doesn't scream we're looking at alternatives and competition......Prufrock wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:As for a new contract for Davies. Re: New deals for Jussi and MrsSKD's husband
Ah but what defines a kidney? Surely a kidney is defined by it's function, and only role is to do something to do with piss. That is the essence of what makes it a kidney, what defines it. If it can no longer do this, surely it is no longer a kidney, rather an ex-kidney? Perh....oh I hate it all.CrazyHorse wrote:If I was a dirty, greasy, know-it-all pedant I'd point out that he's got three kidneys. But I'm not. Re: New deals for Jussi and MrsSKD's husband
I'm not convinced actually. I thought there were signs at the back end of the season Coyle doesn't think that way long term. Even if that is the case, it doesn't matter whether or not Davies is undroppable if our only other striker has one functioning kidney, and two more suffering existential quandries! And a fat clown.BWFC_Insane wrote:Because you know as well as I do that whilst Davies is here and captain he's in the team come hell or highwater. And also "unsubbable". Slightly worrying aside from Nixon in yon Mirror article (see transfer thread) about Coyle looking for strikers "to play alongside Davies". Competition, competition, competition.

It's alright for now - SKD's obviously playing until we sign two strikers or unless we change the system - and might only be an aside, but...Hoboh wrote:I hpe BWFCI is wrong on that one!!! ROBBIE Blake believes he can be more than a bit-part player for Wanderers this season.
The veteran front man, pictured, started just three cup games last season and made a further nine appearances from the bench.
His point-saving free-kick against Birmingham City was undoubtedly the highlight of his first season in Wanderers colours, but there was still somewhat of a surprised mood around the terraces when Owen Coyle took the option to add another 12 months to the 35-year-old’s contract in the summer.
Now, Blake hopes to use pre-season to prove he can play a more prominent role for the Whites. “I’d like to play in more games than last season but that was because there are some very good players here,” he said.
“I’ve got to chance my arm, fight for my place and make sure the manager sees that I’m ready to play some games.
“The manager has said that if players are in form then they are going to be in the team. So I’m hoping to get a good pre-season under my belt and take it from there.”
Blake turned down a loan move to Norwich City last season to fight for his first-team place, and while chances were thin on the ground, he reckons a move elsewhere was never on the cards.
“There’s a great environment and I enjoy it here, and I put that above anything else,” he said. “I feel like I get on with everybody at the club.”

Yes, surprised to find they still exist, floating somewhere above the car park at the big Asda on Manchester Roadthere was still somewhat of a surprised mood around the terraces
Re: New deals for Jussi and MrsSKD's husband
He wants to chance his arm and fight for his place? Surely that will only make it harder?

Re: New deals for Jussi and MrsSKD's husband
Kevin Davies is not as effective as in the past, but due to the lack of strikers on the side it makes perfect sense to keep him around a bit longer.

Was it really suggested that Super Kev play centre back?

SKD at centre-back is an idea that's floated occasionally, like a fart in a bath
At least we'll soon see the back of the idea that Cahill could play in midfield

Cahill in midfield? Interesting, maybe we should keep him?
