In honour of NAT

Hi everyone, I'm a Bolton season ticket holder of 35 years & last September I started cycling again (I used to been a keen cyclist but packed in when I was 18). Since September I've been gradually improving my fitness & mileage with a view to doing a charity bike ride & over the past couple of weeks I have finally made the commitment & booked my travel & accommodation for the ride.

So, commencing on the 23rd July 2011, I will be cycling from John O'Groats to Lands End & I will be doing this in honour of NAT LOFTHOUSE whilst raising money for Cancer Research.

I asked the club if they would check with Nat's family that they were happy for me to do the ride in Nat's honour & today I received confirmation that they are.

I still need to make the arrangements with the charity & also set up a website & blog.... I have started to construct a website but I'm struggling to find the time at the moment, so if anyone is competent at setting up websites & is prepared to offer some of their time to help me I would be very grateful.

Once the website is up & running I will post a link on here.

There are many blog sites out there covering similar themes. http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is one of them and it covers the walks of Mick and Gayle who are prolific walkers covering the length and breadth of the Britain. They have jogle'd and lejog'd plus various walks side to side across the land. They have just walked from the easternmost point in Kent to the westernmost point in Scotland and are following that up immediately with a west to east crossing of Scotland on the TGO Challenge (and have just had an horrendous week of weather!)

My advice re a blog site would be not to try and reinvent the wheel. Go to their site and click the link top right and see where it takes you.

Cheers Armchair, with this being a bank holiday weekend I will have a bit more time to spare, so after fitting in at least one training ride I intend to spend some time having a go at setting up the website. If I don't make much progress I might give you a holla next week.

I've already set up a Just Giving site, but would prefer to have that linked within an overall webpage where I can say a little about myself, the charity & of course Nat.

Yes, going from South to North is the most popular route because the prevailing wind is in that direction & technically it is down-hill as Lands End is higher above sea level than John O'Groats, but lets not allow facts to get in the way of popular myth!

So, why am I doing it North to South? Well, 'blow' the wind! which ever way I go it's sure to be against me + there isn't much at either extremity of the UK but there's certainly more near to LE than JOG & when I've finished I'd prefer a bit of civilisation close to hand... I've booked a B & B in St. Ives a few miles up the road.

That looks like a punishing schedule you have set yourself, JOGLER. I think that you're mad but I admire your courage in tackling it. Your web site is good; neat and trim, everything works and you seem to have covered everything.

You're starting on my birthday which may or may not be a good sign. In your first week you do the Highlands, the Grampians, the Southern Uplands and the Lake District fells. If you get through that lot the second week should be a breeze.

I'm setting off for Scotland on Friday to start my bike ride on Saturday.
