No, but if we have to get beat, I'd rather it be to the world's best players (with us having pretty decent ones ourselves), than getting embarrassed weekly by the likes of Aldershot or Notts County.thebish wrote:not really sure how - unless it's because you like to see Gerrard and Lampard grace our turf with their hallowed presence?BWFC_Insane wrote:That may be shit, but still far prefarable to the alternative!thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote: Where did I say that? not really sure what you ARE saying then - unless watching Robbo, KD and Knight getting beaten every week in the Premiership somehow "floats your boat" more??
Going down would be good fun for a season provided we dicked everyone out of sight, but that almost never happens. More likely is we'd start a slow decline that would lead to us either falling further down the leagues, or swapping our Premier League mid-table mediocrity for lower-league mid-table abyss.
Re: Relegation
maybe it's just my age - but I find myself enjoying the premiership and what it has to offer less and less as the seasons pass... I don't really enjoy what we have become. I know there are a gazillion clubs and their fans who would happily swap places with us - but, there it is...Tombwfc wrote:No, but if we have to get beat, I'd rather it be to the world's best players (with us having pretty decent ones ourselves), than getting embarrassed weekly by the likes of Aldershot or Notts County.thebish wrote:not really sure how - unless it's because you like to see Gerrard and Lampard grace our turf with their hallowed presence?BWFC_Insane wrote:That may be shit, but still far prefarable to the alternative!thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote: Where did I say that? I can see where that opinion would come from... but I don't see how relegation would change, unless (as is very unlikely) we storm the Championship, but then we'd end up back where we are now.thebish wrote: maybe it's just my age - but I find myself enjoying the premiership and what it has to offer less and less as the seasons pass... Re: Relegation
Aye, if we were in the third division everyone would be craving a crack at getting promoted and then doing so again and again, till we got a crack at the premiership. The notion that there is a great deal more to play for outside the premiership is complete bollocks. The only thing to play for is getting back to the league you didn't like cos you lost a lot.Tombwfc wrote:I can see where that opinion would come from... but I don't see how relegation would change, unless (as is very unlikely) we storm the Championship, but then we'd end up back where we are now.thebish wrote: maybe it's just my age - but I find myself enjoying the premiership and what it has to offer less and less as the seasons pass... These discussions only arise when we are struggling, funny that!

I'm actually not worried. Even if we lose tomorrow, we're hardly adrift at the bottom.

Aye, theres bucketloads of shit around us who haven't faced anywhere near the fixture nightmare we have.jmjhb wrote:I'm actually not worried. Even if we lose tomorrow, we're hardly adrift at the bottom.
I'll be panicking if we reach christmas and are still in the bottom three having played most of them, though.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I'm just worried about the number of folk who seem to think a change of fixtures will automatically change our fortunes. My fear is there is too much confidence damage, not enough to belief to carry the good stuff through to lesser opponents. We got a glimpse of the danger of that versus Norwich. End of the day yes there will be easier fixtures but elements of the performance still need to be improved, and we can't ignore that.
The long term nature of the Holden injury may actually benefit the current situation. It rids us of an elephant in the room. We're now not filling gaps, this is what we've got and we have to go with it. Great to hear the likes of Fab come out and say they'll step up, that's the attitude you want.
Agree we'll have a better picture at the end of December, maybe even the end of November but no doubts a win or feisty draw tomorrow will put us in better spirits for the remainder fixtures. Either way, I feel the international break may benefit us as it can serve as a "reset switch"

we pulled one out of the bag against Villa... so it is possible... (and apart from us - they are unbeaten!)hisroyalgingerness wrote:I'm just worried about the number of folk who seem to think a change of fixtures will automatically change our fortunes.

If you are only interested in Bolton then surely you want them to do aswell as possible and therefore play at the highest level they can!

I'd support bolton whichever league they were in. the older i get - the less i enjoy the experience of us being at the top table - it feels like a trap from which we get little return as supporters... i don't think i'd miss it if we dropped down to div. 1 or lower - not that I'd go as far as WANTING us to (the buzz of winning, though rare, is too strong) - but i'd not miss it if we did, relegation would not be the end of my world. of course - doing well in div 1 might lead to the championship - and that might lead back to the prem - and if we got there again - i'd probably feel a mix of triumph and resignation to yet another spell on the premiership hamster-wheel... getting to the top table is an unfortunate side-effect of success - there's nothing there for the likes of us... it also turns us into summat we're not - billy big bollox...
probably, on the surface, none of this makes much rational sense - but emotionally, the premiership offers me not much that lower league football wouldn't - it has disappeared up its own corporate arse...

Makes sense to me, I feel similar. That's sometime mis-interpreted as me saying I want us to go down, I dont, obviously, but from the point of view of someone who enjoys the matchday as much as the match itself these days, a break from the norm of some of these aways in boring and quiet stadiums we get season after season wouldn't be so bad. Plus there would be the feeling you mentioned of us actually having something to play for, even if that something is what some had become bored of in the first place!
From the point of view of the club though of course it would be catastrophic, and there's the very real possibility that we'd end up down there and stuck there in this giant empty shell of a stadium with teams coming to us seeing us as a fairly big scalp, every week.
Come on Whites, stay up. But Ill still be there even if you dont.

Re: Relegation
In the nicest possible way Bish, I imagine it's easier to say that when you're not paying out for a season ticket every season to go and sit in the ground, and you don't live in the are surrounded by rival fans. I have and would again season ticket up in whatever division we are in, my support would not change. I don't think the realities of lower league football are exactly as they are portrayed though. Sitting in the Reebok with a carling cup 2nd round size crowd every week would be a sobering experience in itself. Seeing us lose to teams like Bury and Wallsall again, would not exactly be nice. Yes there may well still be a Bolton to support but I think it would become very gloomy very quickly, once folk woke up to the reality!

I don't want or need you to think or feel the same thing as me. I was just describing how I feel.

You've hit the nail on the head, for me, here!
(and that's not mentioning the Championship players we've signed from Burnley)
Re: Relegation
We are talking about fighting for relegation in the Championship, no? Don't think we'd survive there either.
