Ricketts will hopefully steel up the defence a little bit and maybe even stop us leaking as many goals from the wings

We have THREE available right-backs today! How is that depressing? :D

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

From the local paper's interview with the very welcome returnee Ricketts:

Ricketts’ versatility has been sorely missed by Owen Coyle, as form across the back four seems to have ebbed and flowed just as violently as results.
Been a bit more ebb than flow - and we risk being stranded on Southport beach...

Four if you count Boyata... Which we probably shouldn't. The City loanee has proved himself unready and meanwhile Coyle has confirmed Kakuta will go back to Chelsea tomorrow, so that's two failed loans out of the four allowed per season. Assuming Coyle keeps his job, which for better or worse seems likely, he has to find a third successive international-class January loanee - and let's not forget, Wilshere was tipped for the top long before he came here, while Sturridge only came because Coyle baulked at the demands of Carlos Vela.

Anyway, full-backs. Boyata and Robinson are weeping piles and must be dropped. In absentio Alonso that means Ricketts on the left (for now). Wolves will play a wide five in midfield so it depends whether we think their wing play is more likely to trouble Riley (underexperienced) or Steinsson (arguably undertalented). For what it's worth I'd go for Steiner because he's better on the overlap - especially important if he's behind Mavis cutting inside.

Probably Cahill and Wheater if he gets on the pitch. Knight and Robinson at CB for the next match

If it sounds far fetched, then just look back at some of our team selections this season :?

Have we actually played Boyata at all in his natural position of centre back? He did well in his appearances for City so I really don't understand why he's flopped so badly.

Well, I'm about to set off. Here goes nothing really.

Though may I take this opportunity to point out, for the sake of completeness that .....

WE are the one & only Wanderers !!
