Adam Bogdan
Discounting the freak goal (I just saw it again—that bounce was RIDICULOUS), I thought he did really well. He seemed much more willing to come off his line and attack the ball than Jussi, and for me should retain the jersey.
The horrendous clash between his orange hair and the bright pink shirt is also amusing.

I agree. He should also never wear Brown.
Sky wrote this up as keeper error. WTF?

Re: Adam Bogdan
He looked a bit nervous after the goal, but he stood firm. We gave him a couple of daft passes though, which probably didn't help him.
I still agree it was a 'keeper error in principal. He possibly should have anticipated it and gotten a bit deeper towards his goal line. But as said, it was an absolute freak goal.

Re: Adam Bogdan
The bounce on that ball was ridiculous. I can't see it as anything other than a freak, indeed plenty of other keepers would have been caught out in similar fashion.
Seen Bogdan quite a few times for the reserves when I used to go quite a bit, he's always had enormous potential. In our position it was always worth taking the gamble of selling Al Habsi for money and keeping him.

Re: Adam Bogdan
I think last season he acquitted himself pretty well standing in for Jussi.
Then there was Chelsea at home...
I wouldn't write him off for the Chelsea performance, but had Jussi put that performance in, everyone would be saying he was past it, should be dropped, "I'll drive him to the old folks home myself" etc. etc.
I certainly don't generally panic when Bogdan has to play, so I guess I don't mind either way, but lobbing him in against United, Liverpool and Arsenal in our next three might do him more harm than good, he spent half of his appearances last season picking the ball out of the net against Arsenal.

Re: Adam Bogdan
I think he'll improve with a sustained run of games - but while Jussi's here he'll always be second choice, deservedly or otherwise.
Re: Adam Bogdan
Ol' lead boots wouldn't have let that in, being stuck on his line and all.....
Anyway, only seen MOTD where the only time he featured was to let that in. I agree with Boris in that at the heart of it there is a keeper error. There was no Everton player chasing it so he might as well have gone backwards just in case. However, it was a ludicrous bounce, and it was clear nobody else saw it coming given Cahill and Knight were both giving it the arms out, nothing to see here.
I think Bogdan has the ability, not been convinced mentally he has the confidence (yet) to make a claim for the number 1 (metaphorical).

Re: Adam Bogdan
Happy that he came for crosses etc, overall not that bothered if he or jussi is starting. A bit too much of the long kicks too my liking, saw a few times cahill pulled away but he still pumped the ball forward. Still like to see him given a decend run of matches.

Re: Adam Bogdan
I thought he did very well, and he communicated with the back 4 which is why we defended well they can trust Bogdan

Re: Adam Bogdan
I remember when we first signed Jussi.
Everyone said back then that he was hopeless (and he was) but given time and regular first team games he developed into one of the best keepers in the prem.
If Boggers can get regular first team games there isnt any reason for him not to become a very good goalkeeper.

Re: Adam Bogdan
Looked to me on SSN that some of the senior players (notably Steinsson and Cahill) all go up to Bogdan after the match and put a arm around his shoulder, really nice touch from both.

Re: Adam Bogdan
I think he's got every chance of making it as a first choice at PL level, but it's so hard to predict whether young keepers will come good. Partly because it's all about confidence, partly because they spend much longer becoming the finished article than outfield players.
Chelsea was a bad game for him but Bogdan wasn't the difference between winning and losing. We were getting the sh1t kicked out of us anyway. (Mostly down our left hand side, ahem). Big test for a keeper is to make the good stops and zero errors in close games, and be the difference between a win, a draw or a loss. Bogdan did that well a couple of times last season, like in the cup game at Fulham.
I don't blame him at all for the goal last night. Far as I can tell from the replays, he seemed to be stood in about the right place for that sort of situation. He wasn't up around the penalty spot or the edge of the area, daydreaming - which is usually what's going on when keepers let themselves get lobbed from a long way out (either direct, or by the bounce).

Re: Adam Bogdan
The bounce was akin to a tennis ball with heavy top spin on it ... bounced and jumped up.
Agree, Cahill spent a good amount of time with him at the final whistle ... encourgaing, congratulating, etc. Good to see.

Just to show you how freaky the conditions were when Howard booted that ball it had a lot of backspin on it. By the time it came out of that wind vortex 70 yards later it had topspin on it and just flew forward into the net. Can't blame Bogdan on that one at all.

Re: Adam Bogdan
I was a little nervous for him after the Chelsea affair, but he held his own against Everton. That said Everton were pretty poor on the day and didn't really test him. He'll probably be in goal against Macclesfield but I'm hoping Jussi is back for the Manure game. If not though Bogdan gonna have to be on the ball in old trafford.

Re: Adam Bogdan
Watched the whole thing online, thought the lad was brilliant. The goal wasn't his fault, and he would have saved the free kick at the end anyway (his hand was directly underneath the ball which the crossbar stopped).
I'd give him more games.

There's probably a few Chelsea game kneejerkers who would disagree.

Looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow. I really want it to work for him as he'd be a ready made replacement for Jaaskelainen. I guess only time will tell but here's hoping he puts in a good shift.
