Petrov

Post by Hoboh » Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:15 pm

Just been thinking after the last few games that Petrov was getting murdered on here for being the "weak link" on the left, not helping out with anything, being lazy, useless etc yet with anyone except Robinson he is our most dangerous player and a good outlet now we have some players capable of getting forward fastish! Thoughts?

Was shit, and despite Robinson's failings, was part of the problem. Came in against Blackburn, showed a willingness to track back as well as attacking threat (dispelling the idea that you can't have both) and carried that into the Newcastle game where again he was willing and importantly intelligently defending. Didn't see last night, was working, but sounds like the same again. In on merit at the moment for me, and I'm one of his biggest critics. Would be nice for us to figure out a way of actually pissing scoring from his crosses though!

Seems to have changed his attitude somewhat following his last absence from the team.
Definitley one of our best players going forward. Dont forget - another free transfer come may.

Agreed, and I've said it all along. I've said countless times that we should be playing to strengths, keep Petrov out wide attacking, let the full back (i.e. Sam Ricketts and not Robinson because Robinson doesn't count) and Reo-Coker/Muamba to do the covering in defence.

As for the other post about his crosses, his deliveries aren't the problem it's the lazy bastard strikers that can't be bothered getting in the box that are. He's fired in some crosses this season that are just dying to be put in the back of the net only to find the strikers pissing about 25 yards behind play.

Thought he played well last night and benefits from having a defender who doesn't try to kill the opposition with rash challenges behind him.

It also helps having someone who is relatively decent in that position too.

That's smashing and all, but whatever their faults, they are the strikers we have. No using flinging crosses in all day and saying well if we had strikers who could head we'd be top of the league.

Cept it was bollocks and we were getting dicked. Now he can be arsed defending and suddenly our left side doesn't look shit.

Kind of true excpet that Petrov is very predictable in that he nicks a yard and hammers it low and hard at the near post.It simply begs for a striker to gamble and get across the front of the defender but it hasnt been happening. Whether its lack of fitness or confidence or not I dont know but its odd that noone makes that near post run when its bleeding obvious where the ball will go if Petrov has it out wide.

No Robbo on the left and we are tougher to beat. Gets on me tits when Robbo makes a mistake and then starts screaming at another Bolton player like it is their fault.

I was one of those slagging Petrov earlier and I don't take it back. His form and his workrate have improved, simple as. Much as I enjoy blaming Robinson for everything, I'm pretty sure he wasn't stood behind Petrov earlier in the season shouting "go on, pass it to one of their players! Go on, hit the freekick into the first defender!"

When was the last time we had a striker who was prepared to make runs across the box to attack the near post?

Don't laugh..... Pedersen. seriously, he was good atacking the front post and getting ahead of his marker. The only problem came once the ball reached him!

Aye you're right, good point. But he rarely played up front for us really....

He's been looking sharp the last few games. HAs anyone else questioned his corner kicking ability recently? Against Everton, they were low and hard (as per his crosses) and rarely beat the first defender. Part of the game plan, or a shit corner kick?

I wasn't, always maintained that Robinson was the issue down the left. F*cking disgraceful the lack of support he used to give going forward.

When Petrov is very good, he's errr, very good.

It doesn't happen often enough or consistently enough and when he's very bad, you might as well play with 10.

Which is your way of saying " I take it all back -it's not all Robbo's fault".
