£50k a week would probably make him the lowest paid player in the first team squad at Chelsea

Coyle says he will play against manure if it's still not done by weekend.

Hi guys, just to inform you AVB press conference is underway. He said, regarding Cahill "Good steady progress has been made, we hope to conclude it very soon, talks are going very well, no deadline set whatsoever" When asked which game they hope to have him signed in time for he said "This week hopefully"

He's training with us today. So they'd best get a move on....

Nixon hinting that the delay is as much down to Chelsea as to Gary himself..

Really do wonder what is going on.

They asked him about the delay, he said the delay hasn't been caused by something negative, it's just part of the business (whatever that means). If he's training with you I can't imagine it getting done today

Mail's merely nicking (albeit credited) the Mirror story, written by a certain A. Nixon.

I'm more intrigued by the Independent report linked above, which (for those who missed it or haven't read it) says that Chelsea aren't offering massive wages due to concerns over the incoming Financial Fair Play rules. Which is reasonable enough, although it rather hampers our spending plans, now and in summer.

It may be that GC & CFC can't reach terms this week, although I rather doubt the it's-now-or-never sabre-rattling (wasn't the deal supposed to be concluded yesterday or called off?). Chelsea would happily conclude a deal next week rather than never. The links to Manchesters City and United are doubtlessly happy thoughts to the Cahills, but BWFC rather showed their hand by saying that no such contact had been made. That may have been an attempt to flush out interest but it instead gave Chelsea more time. And as for Spurs, they'll wait a good while yet - they'll want to sell their own unwanted squad members and drive down Cahill's price, and that's assuming they're not successful in signing Chris Samba first.
Owen Coyle said rather than wrote:Dialogue continues between Gary's agent and Chelsea. We accept it has probably been long-drawn. It is over two weeks ago that we agreed a fee. But sometimes that is the nature of football business. It can take that period of time. Gary is a Bolton player and until I hear something different in terms of negotiations being concluded between both parties, he will be in line to play against Manchester United.

Possibly, but not necessarily. I can't imagine Cahill's agent John Seasman is up in Lancashire putting out the cones. Down in the smoke, he and CFC's beancounters can back-and-forth over coffee and croissants and when agreement is reached, ferry Cahill down tonight for training at Cobham tomorrow. If the sides want business done - and both do, for different reasons - it'll get done... especially your lot, considering you won't want him walking around Old Trafford this weekend.

Quite possibly, unless one side (Cahill or Chelsea, as BWFC is irrelevant now) is still unsure or having second thoughts...

My thoughts too.

Much as that's a massive salary to normal beings in Chelsea football club terms it's pretty pauce & I doubt it's what he was expecting to be offered.

You really don't get several bites at setting your entry salary so I don't blame him for saying f'cough.

If he stayed a few months he'd still be getting a fair slice of the saved £7m in a larger signing on fee.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Personally, I'd sooner Spuds came in for him now. I'd happily take 4 mill and Kranjcar.

Cahill out of tomorrow's squad and ready to sign for Chelsea within the next few hours. Apparently. According to Twitter. So probably not.

Bit daft to get rid now on the eve of us playing ManUre, eh? PLus I thought there was like an offish FA midday day deadline for him being signed so that he could be at Chelsea over the weekend?
