Re: Bruce Rioch - Legend
Won the final five games? How about won fifteen (f*cking 15!!), drew two , lost one of the last 18 games in that '92-'93 run in. It felt like something truly special at the time, its not just a sepia-tinted memory. Still the most exciting (if not greatest achieving) season I've ever witnessed. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Never to be repeated in terms of excitement, for me.
Re: Bruce Rioch - Legend
Still one of my all time heroes. That question about "who would you most like to meet" that people usually have to answer Nelson Mandela too? I'd answer "Bruce Rioch" every time!
I only went to two games under Phil Neal and all I remember about them was how numb my feet were in the freezing cold. That year I believe I was one of two Bolton fans in a Bolton primary school class. The preceding era must've shrunk our current fanbase considerably.
Fortunately I was considered old enough to be taken to more games the following season, when Bruce arrived. I'd like to think that after Bruce and Sam did their work, there are a hell of a lot more kids choosing to support Bolton nowadays, regardless of what's happened since. Perhaps we'll maintain a stronger fanbase in future because of it.
Does anyone fancy digitising the Roadrunner video from the 92-93 season?

I'll add one more bit of advice to the advice I gave earlier (and you have largely ignored)bwfcdan94 wrote:whenever i have been up there there seems tobe more united shirts than bolton in horwich which is redicoulas
if you intend to use a word a lot - (say, in 80% of your posts) - then look it up to see if you are spelling it anything close to correctly...
Re: Bruce Rioch - Legend
rediculous

Halcyon days... if it hadn't been for the memories of standing on burnden terrace with LK in those days I would started to ignore him years ago.

Re: Bruce Rioch - Legend
I've posted twice on this subject and they've both varnished.
3rd time lucky.
Right, I've said on here before (twice today in fact) that the Rioch/Todd era was definitely my mostest favouritest time as a Superwhite.
The Iles article mentions the 2-2 at Chester which acted as a full stop on the Phil Neal, almost Megsonesque attitude to 'not-losing-tames-by-many' ideology ushering in a 'let-them-worry-about-us' attitude.
WBA apart (we just couldn't beat them for a while could we?) we destructed teams left right and centre.
Who can forget Fulham (a) 4-1, Burnley (h) 4-0 followed by Bradford (h) 5-0.
The crushing of Exeter 4-0 had Dave Higson shouting 'Football Italia? FOOTBALL ITALIA? Watch this at Burnden Park!' and who'll ever forget the faces of the Chester Players as a late collapse saw us run in 5 goals in the final 15minutes?
I think all 5 went in right at the death - I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong.
The comeback at Hull, the thrashing of Blackpool and of course little Andy Walkers goal after 45 seconds v Huddersfield.
Bruce Rioch - arguably the greatest (modern-era) BWFC manager ever.
Undeniably the most exciting time to be a Wanderer.
Right I'm going to post this bugger and make sure it stays posted!

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.
