He's had more than enough games to be able to see he is shite.
At Blackburn away he was man of the match until he went off injured. There's plenty of potential in that lad - whether or not Coyle can develop it remains to be seen.
Paul robinson was superb for half a season when we were in the top 8 at Christmas.

Alonso for me is just always way off the pace. Dont know whether he will fair any better in the more physical championship.
Not sure Paul Robinson and 'superb' have ever appeared in the same sentence before.

Understand what you mean re- Alonso being way off the pace, it's a view I've held for a long time. It's just, I can't forget that game at Blackburn and what I feel might be with a run of games under his belt, and some clear direction as to what exactly's being asked of him.

I was a believer in Alonso after seeing him at Blackburn, but he's played enough times since to see that he doesn't have it. I'm not even convinced that he'll be any better in the Championship. Michael Kightly is/was/always will be a Championship player and he made him look pathetic. Tranmere might be about right. David Wheater is a better full-back.

Saying that, I'm genuinely of the opinion that Paul Robinson is least worst of the three left-backs we had last season.

Paul Robinson from the year before maybe. The difference when Ricketts came back was unreal. I don't think he is particularly great, but he is quick which means he can get away with stuff. When Robbo was playing it was almost cruel how much he was getting targeted.

Fulham at home. Worst performance by any bolton player since gerald cid. I'm hoping he gets sent down and we have some insurance. I agree with tom...league 1/2 player.

Id sign a new left back if we could...but i think ricketts is adequate there for next season.

Wolves away and Fulham at home.

Honestly I thought he'd played more than that, but he was so bad in both I'm content with writing him off. Infact, I'd seen enough after the Wolves game. How he kept his place for Fulham is beyond me.

Good players have bad games, but I don't believe any ever play as badly as he did in those two. As bad as I've ever seen a professional footballer play in my life, twice in two games.

As for Ricketts, I think he's a reasonable enough right-back and did an admirable job covering at centre-half, but he's a shocking left-back.

Aahhh Fulham at home.
That shining example of a top performance by the other 10 on the park.

They where all GASH for crumbs sake.
They targeted Alonso and to my memory he got no bleeding help in managing the countless 2 on 1's

But no, chop his legs off and be done with it.
I despair...
It's one thing thinking he isn't a particularly good player. It's another being so far gone that you refuse him even half of another chance.

Alonso isn't as bad as some make out. He's a solid enough player and I don't have any issue with him being on the bench for us. He's useful.

The title for which rests with Andy O'Brien from when Andy Johnson ripped him a new ringpiece?! :conf:

Unti last season when Alonso made Damien Duff appear to be better than Messi. Truly embarrassing.

The performances by Alonso in the Wolves but especially the Fulham game still make me shudder. The showing of players inside to invite them to shoot was just such negligent defending and nothing do with 2 on 1's. Anyway surely he won't be free to play that much longer, will he?

I have no bearing on whether he's picked again or not. If he gets another go and plays well, I'll obviously admit so. I can't see it.

The other 10 on the field had no bearing on how he played in either of those games though. The other 10 could've been the current Spain team and he'd still have been embarrassed. Damien Duff must have thought he'd gone back in time, he's not outpaced a man for about seven years.

The only thing missing from his game is Paul Robinson's charisma.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
