A 1-1 draw in the first game isn't a bad result. The team seemed to have plenty of chances to take the lead and if the cutting edge was there (which will come with the rest of pre-season) then we wouldve had a lot more.

All you can really take from the first game of pre-season is whose been keeping trim over the holidays.

Minor back injury apparently

All pre season results are irrelevant. Just get them fit and avoid injuries.

Didn't we lose 0-6 in Denmark one year prior to having a great season in the Prem?

Just seen this on Twitter.
Coyle: "David Ngog missed out as he has tweaked his back slightly. So far he has only trained in half of our pre-season sessions."

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

At the risk of sounding foolish because it's common knowledge or has already been discussed, but.... No Sordell? Injured? Still too young?

Anyone who saw it have any early feedback on guys such as Cisse, Wylde & Eaves?

According to the official feed last night, Cisse was a man mountain in front of the defense, Wylde looked good and eaves had very little apart from a few chances.

Alonso's goal look decent, and again according to the official feed him and Wylde have been forming a good partnership over the last few weeks, question is if Alonso breaks out into the player some people were expecting when he came from Madrid, do we put Ricketts back in at right back and push Riley further down the pecking order or put him center back ( I can remember him doing a job there for a few games last season)

I don't rate Alonso from what I've seen, but I'd be interested to see how he does. Not against Burnlry though.. We'll need a few sensible, experienced heads for that one!

I think the problem with Alonso so far is that he's had injuries that have messed up his progress, I mean when he got that run in the side before he hurt his ankle he was doing pretty well and was a massive step up from Paul Robinson (not that it takes alot to be better then Robinson) but I think a good pre season and a few more games under his belt and he wouldn't be an awful left back to have!

Evening guys.

I went along to the game the other night (only a couple of miles from home so much easier for than for you). I always watch out for the Bolton score so I was looking forward to seeing them again, especially when I heard the starting line-up.

The first half was reasonably even. Although Ayr are a part-time team, just relegated to the third tier here, they have a new manager who is keen for them keep the ball on the ground and play a passing game. They recently beat a full-strength (Champions League qualifying) Motherwell team 4 - 0 so it looks like they're on the right track.

However it seemed to me that Wanderers rarely moved out of 2nd gear. They appeared content to knock the ball about, playing from the back with occasional bursts forward. The gulf in fitness / speed was the biggest difference, even though Bolton were in 'easing back into it' mode. I'd expect them to pick up the pace as the games progress.

I was impressed by C-Y Lee, Zat Knight, and Mark Davies (who's one of my boys favourite players). Not convinced by Bogdan though - him and Mills had a mix-up a couple of times - maybe the first game they've played together ?

After half-time, there were wholesale changes, and some of the subs looked good. The boy that set up the goal (Eaves ?) looked lively, and Alonso looked good, and scored a good goal. After Ayr got the equaliser things just fizzled out, but all in al it was an enjoyable evening.

And respect to the fans who made it up from Lancs. It was a typical Scottish summer evening - the torrential rain was warm !!!

All the best for the new season - hope to make it down for a couple of games in the Autumn.

Thanks for the match review, a different perspective is always refreshing. As for the 3 tour games we'll be picking up the pace as we go so I expect (hope) that the performances will improve

I wonder if Coyle is planning to use Eaves much this season? I can see a few of these young players getting games, especially as the season progresses.
