Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
My dad knows him from Warburtons, he worked there after he retired. I've met him around town when I was with my dad when I was younger. Lovely bloke.TANGODANCER wrote:Never realised till today that Win Davis still lives in Bolton.(B.N). Not a legend but a dam good player for the Whites.
Although for years, I thought his nickname was "The Leek", because of his Welshness...

Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
Obviously the answer to the question is Nat Lofthouse but despite being a bit of a joke right now, Kevin Davies is right up there.

Cracking bloke by all accounts as well. Know a couple of lads who support Tamworth and Super Bob used to go out on the lash with the fans after a game on a Saturday when he was there in the latter days of his career.thebish wrote:oh yes! SupaBob...wembley1995 wrote:bob taylor
Imagine the apathy now though if we signed a thirty something striker on loan who couldn't get in to a team in the division below us.

Unless my memorie's worse than I thought, Supersub was Bob's main claim to fame for us. He knew where the nets were that's for sure.

Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
Only Lofthouse fits the true legend Status, I never saw him play, but in my time Worthington, McGinley, Bergsson, Djorkaof and Okocha are the stand out candidates for me.

Exactly the same for me
Those are my top 5 and take some beating in my opinion
My personal was john mcginlay, true legend for me out and out wanderer
especially for punching that wolves player in the face (cant get any more passionate than that)
Great minds!!

Re: Trotters' Ultimate Legend
Since the thread title's The Trotters Ultimate Legend, Lofty has to win. Every new era springs somebody up who can be remembered, but not too many legends. When he finally retires, Kevin Davies will qualify for me. Everybody goes past their best but this guy has battled on through injury, dislocated fingers, smashed cheekbone and more kicks then the London Palladium dancers for years and he's still in there fighting. True Bolton player, true legend.

A guy came onto Radio Man Citeh tonight & spoke to John McGinley, telling him he;d named his son after him .... no, not John, but McGinley.
Supa John was speechless.

You're far from the only one. I remember a kid round the corner from me having the incorrect spelling on the back of his shirt. I couldn't mock too much as I suffered a similar fate with Curcic!bobo the clown wrote:It's been a while.Leyther_Matt wrote:Question is, did he spell McGinlay correctly?bobo the clown wrote:A guy came onto Radio Man Citeh tonight & spoke to John McGinley, telling him he;d named his son after him .... no, not John, but McGinley.

My dad always raves about him Bruce. Said he had a cracking eye for a goal.
