Re: Derby away
Managers and players all come and go but there's definitely a mojo about football clubs that never dies or even goes away.
Ours is never to impose ourselves on games, never to believe in ourselves, never to take games to the opposition and always give in to the sucker punch.
We're like the drunk, trying to get his life back in shape, promising his family and friends that he'll get it right from this weekend but then finds himself in the gutter come Friday lunchtime.
From day one of the season we should have used our 'Premier League' history and the ground to bully teams and dominate them from the second they arrived on the forecourt.
Yet for some reason the belief that some teams have in themselves just doesn't exist here and we fall under the pressure of expectation.
Nervous and panicky we're a crumbling empire.
Rioch and Allardyce managed to keep the wolf from the door for a while but sooner or later it was bound to return.
Why do we never push on at 1-0? You could never imagine us doing a 'Peterborough' and demolishing a team, every win has been 'gritty' and 'hard fought', every draw and loss a demoralising, crushing blow.
Still. Dougie has a game plan. Plan A and if that fails he has Plan B.
Hooray!

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Re: Derby away
That's been the really annoying part of this season....every win bar a stuffy Derby one has been by one goal, none by more than two goals. So we're copnstantly hanging on, game's never over after 70 minutes.coffeymagic wrote:Managers and players all come and go but there's definitely a mojo about football clubs that never dies or even goes away.

We've scored one fewer goal than we've conceded. Talk about an addiction to close games.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:That's been the really annoying part of this season....every win bar a stuffy Derby one has been by one goal, none by more than two goals. Top stuff from the Leopard. Let's hope it encourages a few more match day experiences.

Re: Derby away
I was at the game after making the decision to go at 5.30. Our centre halfs looked solid with Mears and Ricketts both playing as bad as each other. Spearing was too complacent with Chung doing well on the flank. Eagles did everything right apart from the final ball/effort. Pratley impressed me, I feel he isnt as bad as I first judged. Lastly Ngog/ CD did OK. with very little oppurtunities. CD gives far to many fouls away but proved to be a real handful for the Derby defence at times.

Halfway through that sentence about quizzing the train inspector, I was sure you were trying a connected four on him!

Highlights!! We always seemed to have 10 players behind the ball - does that not invite pressure against a team that cant keep clean sheets.

You've got to have a keep the ball, if you don't want to do that away from home.m_taylor wrote:http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0 ... 12,00.html

Re: Derby away
Just watched the highlights. Bogdan had another great game by the look of it. Although all that hard work defensively went out the window because of an individual error from ricketts (?). How very frustrating! We need to get away from that bottom 3 soon because we're hovering a bit too close above it for my liking
Re: Derby away
I like the idea of keeping the ball but i think our strength lies in our forward play. Mavis, Eagles, N'gog, CYL and Sordell can all create and score on there day but we don't seem to able to get the ball up there for longer enough periods away from home and since we haven't won since away from home since November maybe time to mix it up?

Yeah and how do you mix it up without the ball?m_taylor wrote:I like the idea of keeping the ball but i think our strength lies in our forward play. My point was if you want to attack them at 1-0 with them throwing bodies forwards you either need to counter, which we did, but our players wasted the ball too often.
OR be able to keep hold of the ball for long periods of time.
It seems we aren't good at either.
The answer is for Ricketts not to make the most basic of mistakes.

You're asking a lot there.. He's made a career out of it.BWFC_Insane wrote: The answer is for Ricketts not to make the most basic of mistakes.
I'd love to see the points per game we get or the goals conceded per game comparison with him out of the side. I bet we're better..
Mears and Alonso are better players. Younger and earn less. I'm surprised he wasn't released in Janurary as per the rumours

I think he's a good honest pro who's served us well, but yeah I can't see him being here next season.
Never really looked right after coming back from injury.
