Diminutive? Doesn't that mean small?
I saw him once in Tesco at the Middlebrook (clutching a multi-pack of Walker's crisps) and he must have been 6' 1" at least and about 14 stone!

Ha ha, what a great guy. I remember what I think was his first away game for Bolton at White Hart Lane when we got a bit of a stuffing. Ivan was all at sea in defence and it wasn't long after that that SA gave him a new sweeper type role.
He delighted and amused in equal measure in his new role. I just loved how he could get fouled, hold the ball as he got back to his feet then look at the player who had brought him down in a "how very dare you" way, leaving the ref with no option but to give us a free kick. Some of his passing was sublime and the goals and assists, when they came, were generally pretty special.
The club must get him back in some capacity or other because I'm sure we are missing a trick at the moment.

He regularly tweets about Bolton, comments after most games. Must keep a close eye on the results.

OK OK, the immortal words of Jodie Foster & Scott Baio.CrazyHorse wrote:The immortal words of Jodie Foster? Blimey.

Certainly one of them. A class act, great entertainment and well-loved by the fans. I've got the " Ivan Campo-Ivan Campo" chant in my head now, probably for all day. Whoever called him "diminutive" probably never saw him up close. His touching the ball away just before taking a tackle was a free-kick winning master-class. "I'm just nipping back for a haircut...to Spain".Beefheart wrote:My all time favourite Bolton player.

Re: God Loves Ivan Campo.
Hard to argue against him being one of the greats. He must have had a Tesco clubcard cos I saw him in Tesco Walkden doing the Mr Burns 'Ketchup? Katsup?' with two jars of goo.
Have any other Metro readers spotted a former Wanderer in a Tesco?
Other supermarket chains will not qualify.
Watching clips of this period makes me want to burst into tears.

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Add me to the list of people seeing him in Tescos. Doing his shopping in November in flip flops.

McGinlay was once spotted in the Morrison's on Chorley Old. I know that's a different chain, but I don't care. (I hear that last year, Waitrose's website had a competition offering a holiday to Tresco.)89bwfc89 wrote:I've seen David Lee and Tony Kelly.coffeymagic wrote:Hard to argue against him being one of the greats. Re: God Loves Ivan Campo.
I once stood next to a bloke in the stalls in a night club. He looked at me and said, "Hi". I said "Hello there" he said, "Do you know who I am?" Before I could reply, he added, "I'm Alan Ball's dad, you know, Alan Ball, the footballer"
I said, Oh. Do you know who I am?"
He frowned, looked closely at me and said, "Nope, sorry, should I?.
I said, "Well, I live back to back with you and see you most days". He just nodded, and walked off looking a bit miffed.

I went to a reserve game at The Reebok a while ago. Nipped to the toilet and went to wash my hands and as I turned round I saw Phil Brown finishing up at the urinal and heading towards the sink. I said " Hi Phil", he responded with "Hi!" and offered a handshake and without any thought I took the handshake. Then he proceeded to wash his hands.coffeymagic wrote:Can we please get this topic back on thread? I then went to Tesco and bought some hand sanitiser where I met Franck Passi.

Love Campo but I'm not sure about giving him a position of responsibility at the club. A character like Djorkaeff though, definitely!
