Club Rebranding

The cynic in me has suspicions that we never intended to go with QQ, but that they slipped us a few quid for some publicity for a week. The club looks good for listening to the fans and bringing in a new sponsor (straight away - but weeks of negotiations needed surely?), QQ bow out gracefully but having had their company spoken about, hit on Google, and their name brought to the front of the line of these bastard money lending companies that people will still continue to want / need to use. I'm sure wonga are sat there applauding their savvy.

Anyway that's the cynic in me. Based on nothing but cynicism. He doesn't come out often

F*ck me, will wonders never cease, the idiot that calls out our manager as a cancer is defending to the hilt Quick Quid. Sort your head out man.

A) In terms of our "last managers" effect on the football club I was 100% right. In fact I don't think there have been many truer statements on here. He was a destructive force. End of. Proven right.

B) I've no interest in defending quickquid, they can do that themselves. I don't like hypocrites though. If it's all about "being moral" then fine. But I just don't want those people moaning about deals not happening when the club aren't prepared to work with "immoral agents" or aren't prepared to pay money they don't have. I'm glad that the club have shown they respond to "concerns". But equally I'm not convinced that all those signing petitions and protesting will still be here in 20 years watching the club based on the "small, local, family community image" alone. Success needs money. Whether you like it or not. As a fan I have no fecking clue where the morals of a football club should be. What I want is success on the field. The name on the shirt will be long forgotten in a few years.

I'm happy that QuickQuid aren't going to be the sponsors but I can see how it might hit us financially as well.

here's an idea... why not wait until someone does that before moaning about them doing it? (still not convinced that the difference between the deal with QuickQuid and Fibrlec necessarily amounts to a player-signingly significant amount - you'd have to give me actual figures rather than total guesses to convince me of that...

this is slightly at odds with the kind of thing you have written in the past - including your opposition to Di Canio as manager... you stated you were against his being our manager for non footballing reasons and because he is a fascist (as well as being a "barmpot" and not a particularly good manager)

but then we are all entitled to change our minds, I guess - especially when trying to root out hypocrisy in the world...

250k is 0.38% of our turnover, if my maths are right. Although our turnover will have no doubt dropped since relegation, there's no way it will have dropped to the level where £250k is significant.

As for hypothetical 'community initiatives', there must be a reason why we've gone with a company tied to the University of Bolton. If we just picked a name out of a hat, why not stick a charity on there?

I have a feeling that they will have substantial money behind them. From somewhere. Its a huge growth area, there are huge tax breaks being handed out at the moment for sustainable and (I use the phrase for illustration purposes only) environmentally friendly energy providers. There may even be a (albeit small) tax break in this for the club (do we even pay tax anymore?).

Certainly seems to reflect more positively on the club.

We won't pay tax since we don't make a profit. Even if we started making a profit we wouldn't pay tax on it for years. FibrLec will probably be entitled to R&D Tax credits (100% of expenditure if they are an SME, 30% if considered large), but BWFC won't be.

I'm sure they've had the 4,500 petition signees working through the night voluntarily to change all the sponsors on the shorts, such were the lengths they were prepared to go to

Sorry, I worded it rather badly , I mean if they are advising BWFC on their energy policy. My industry is awash with initiatives that (apparently) cut certain tax liabilities for being environmentally friendly. I know not the exact details, other than people keep coming and inspecting the place to find out about our energy/waste/water policies etc etc etc
