For anyone seeking the optimistic approach here you go;

Now AP is all kinds of supreme but like I said this one is really for the optimists.

No Holden back? Probably not the time for puns.keveh wrote:For some reason I think we may have seen the last of him in a Wanderers shirt.
Gutted
I agree. Long long way back from here. But who knows. He's the kind of guy who seems capable of doing the work, looking on the bright side. Mind you, it takes a brave man to go into a competitive sports game on two previously knacked knees.
Whatever he decides - good luck to him. Not a bad game to go out on if it does turn out to be his last. Hope it's not.
Formerly known as Meg'sEleven. And Owen'sEleven. And Dougie'sEleven. We're getting through them aren't we...
Re: Stu Holden was fantastic tonight for the U.S
it's POSSIBLE physically to come back from - but a massively tall order given what he has already been through - but I suspect MENTALLY - given how tough it has been for him over the last 2 seasons - not least with the setback - this will be a bridge too far...
i'm really sorry for the lad...

Can we claim anything with regards to wages as he was injured on international duty?

Real shame for Stu. It's just really sad for him.
I expect he will comeback the issue will be as Bish says mental. But also one players have these sorts of injuries they have a habit of recurring. See Ricardo Gardner.
Anyhow good luck stu with the recovery!

Hope so.
I wonder what we've paid the guy over his previous 2 knew injuries and broken leg?
I loved the guy and wanted him back so much but I find myself being fecking angry tonight.
Sports bloody crap at times...

Exactly, the wages he's on could pay for another midfielder if we can claim for it. Even if we just get someone in on loan for the season.the-Bowtun-Warrior wrote:adamworthy2002 wrote:Can we claim anything with regards to wages as he was injured on international duty?

Rehabilitation and return to normal function after surgical repair of an ACL tear can take nine months or more.

Kind of reminds me of the Newcastle/FA/Michael Owen situation. I was surprised Newcastle got so much money. I mean it's one thing if a guy suffers a freak broken leg, but let's be honest, neither Owen nor Holden would have made it much further without another serious injury.adamworthy2002 wrote:Can we claim anything with regards to wages as he was injured on international duty?

Nobody gets injured on purpose, I'll wish him a speedy recovery although it sounds bad. Real shame for the lad . I suppose other sides get their share of injuries, but we seem dogged by bad luck. As one door closes, another slams shut.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?

Don't know if this was posted but if you like looking at car crashes here's the video to the injury in repeat slo-mo. Like many of these bad ones, it looks like nothing happens [right knee]

Gutted for him. But I honestly don't think it's bad luck now. I think it's a serious problem with his knees. I think he's done

Agree tempted to feel more this way now, even though it could just be a freak I wonder if it's because of the extra strain this knee had to go through in being 'the stronger one' throughout rehab?boltonboris wrote:Gutted for him. I dunno
Did Gardner do both ACLs? Know it was at least one? His knees caught up with him in the end.

Re: Stu Holden was fantastic tonight for the U.S
Here in Australia, the local sport of Aussie Rules has dozens of these ACL injuries each year. And there is a certain type of ACL that can have synthetic surgery (LARS) rather than grafting from the hamstring muscle, which has a turn around of less than 6 months. The procedures are so good that there is never any talk of career ending injury, and most players return to the peak of their powers.
As was mentioned earlier, it may be more of a mental hurdle with Holden. Although were his first knee issues even ACLs? I thought it had something to do with an infection?

Re: Stu Holden was fantastic tonight for the U.S
So sad but realistically he will probably be 29 when he recovers and it will be 4 years since he last played a full season, so probably the end of the road for him. Hope not but the Club has to be realistic as well. Hopefully he and they are well insured for what is probably a career terminating injury!!!
I wish him all the best for his recovery and future.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED
