Without the run at the end of last season, it makes him no better than Coyle. Same players. Maybe it was just luck? What was rthe stat that CH put up? This is our worst start since 1984? Its like the sublime to the ridiculous in the blink of an eye.James B wrote:the best thing freedman can do is to move on some of the overrated sh*te we have on the books but we aren't playing fm here and it's not easy. i do wonder if our little run toward the end of last season (which was a bit fortuitous imo) clouded his judgement a bit in the summer.
either way, it's hard to overhaul too much at once.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

But you can't really take away that run at the end of last season, because it happened.Lord Kangana wrote:Without the run at the end of last season, it makes him no better than Coyle. Same players. If we took away the run that took us to 7th in the Prem and to a Cup Semi under Coyle, it'd probably have looked a whole lot bleaker...but wouldn't dream of taking that off him, he had plenty of time after that.

Name names, James. Who would you get shut of? Not picking on you, just wondering.James B wrote:the best thing freedman can do is to move on some of the overrated sh*te we have on the books but we aren't playing fm here and it's not easy.
We must be talking about wage-hoggers, because of today's players, the majority have been bought or given contract extensions by DF - and one of the exceptions (Knight) he made captain, the other he spent much of summer talking up as the Missing Linkman (NGog):
......................Bogdan......................
Mears....Knight....Wheater....Baptiste
............Medo.........Spearing............
Pratley.........NGog..................Lee
....................Beckford....................
Subs used: Eagles (for Pratley 55), Moritz (for Ngog 58), C Davies (for Medo 79)
Unused subs: Lonergan, Mills, Tierney, Hall
...so unless the players whose lackadaisicality made him hop with rage are Mears, Pratley and Lee – all of whom DF chose over benched alternatives he had hired (Tierney for Mears with Bap switching across, Moritz for Pratley, Hall for Lee) - then for all the bad that unarguably happened under Coyle, we have to say a lot of it is now the incumbent's responsibility...

Then you can't blame the players now. That's having your cake and eating it.

Re: Away to Blurrrghburn
Wonder if the subbed players were entirely tactical? Pratley 10 minutes into the second half, Ngog three minutes later... then Medo toward the end for a striker when we were really chasing it... might be 2+2=5 but for those who went, did Freedman seem irked by the first two players he hauled off?Relentless09 wrote:Think Dougie was trying to remain calm in that interview, seemed like he was angry with certain players.

it'd be easier to list the players i'm happy with
i'll leave out the new recruits as it's too early to judge
i like medo, spearing & eagles (although the latter is a bit hit & miss)
everyone else could go for all i care, obviously the smaller wage earners get more leeway.
obviously, as i alluded to earlier, it's unrealistic to expect such a massive overhaul, i just hope given time df gets rid of most of these wasters.

Does anyone here think Dougies days are looking very numbered to the extent where a sacking could be very close on the horizon. bring in Aidy

Re: Away to Blurrrghburn
He very clearly stated that some players don't want to be at the club, as he said that if so they can exit on Monday.
Who might that be then ?
Mills ... but he can hardly be blamed I suppose.
Lee ? N'Gog ?
Mears .... I doubt that tbh
Eagles ??
Knight ? ... I fckg wish.
One way or the other DF has got to get under this confusion and sort it out.
It's a shambles.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Away to Blurrrghburn
Have we actually looked the better side in any of the games we've played so far? I've never felt we were in charge of any of them.
Stream commentator today remarked "Bolton have Premiership experience, trouble is they don't have Championship experience!" At that stage we could easily have been four down. By the end of the game, we were. We looked lacking in pace all over the field. Every time they attacked we were in danger of conceding another goal. The number of times we gave the ball away needlessly was frightening. We had little penetration in our build ups and one extended passing session finished up back to Bogdan, who I felt sorry for today. We really do need a long look at what's going wrong.

Re: Away to Blurrrghburn
agree with you TD with your point about our not being comfortable and progressive in possession. As has been said before Medo & Spearing are battlers and thats it. The former gave the ball away continuously - pretty sure his misplaced pass led to the first goal. Also pretty sure our poor passing, control and movement created more chances for them than they created themselves through good play.TANGODANCER wrote:Have we actually looked the better side in any of the games we've played so far? Makes me think DFs attempts to play more through the middle is flawed - not convinced we have the system or players in the side to do it

Re: Away to Blurrrghburn
Ah, but you responded to one of my posts that was in itself a response to someone who was blaming the players. And I was pointing out the glaring flaw in that proposition. Namely that if 7th last season with the same players was down to the manager, how can this seasons poor start be down to us having poor players, when in the main they are trhe same players that got us to 7th? It does not follow.Worthy4England wrote:I don't believe I've apportioned any blame yet, other than to say the buck ultimately stops with the Manager.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Me, or W4E?Lord Kangana wrote:Then you can't blame the players now. Re: Away to Blurrrghburn
Whilst this seasons start has been significantly worse than anyone thought, reality needs to set in. At best this squad is an upper mid table team ( 7th -12th ). This year was always going to be more difficult, given the quality of the teams who came down and other sides being in a better position to strengthen.
Given our poor financial position it is unlikely that will improve unless someone pumps a large some of cash in as a sugar daddy. Reality is we are in this division for a few years.

Yep - thought Medo was poor with possession for first half hour, improved a bit after that just a pity we were 2 down by then. Spearing wasn't much better.Enoch wrote:Really!StaffsTrotter wrote:The former gave the ball away continuously
