Here's what some of it has gone for:

England cap for the 'Lion of Vienna' game - £5,625
1958 F.A. Cup final ball - £5,250
1958 F.A. Cup final shirt and shorts - £11,875
1958 F.A. Cup winner's medal - £20,625

Makes you feel a bit sick, really. Bet their rubbing their hands and thinking of where to go on their jollies on these proceeds.

I'd be surprised if Bolton Council have shelled out that amount for some of this stuff.

Fromt' BEN.

Jeff Lofthouse says they considered offering items to be on permanent display but still retain ownership, but no one came forward

More questions than answers. Who did they approach? What items were they 'considering' offering? I can't imagine that BWFC would be interested in displaying Nat's collection of ceramic plates for example, but i'd be amazed if they weren't interested in the '58 stuff.

Absolutely. Why's the Council among the bidders if they could have had items on a free loan? I'm also intrigued by his use of the word 'considered'.

Not a huge amount in the realm of things.

Again, fromt' BEN;

Grand total for the sale of Nat Lofthouse's memorabilia is £102,490

Just doesn't seem like a right lot to me.

looks like a small fortune to me for a ball, some old shirts and a couple of pairs of boots - oh, and a medal or two!

I suppose £100k is better than a poke in the eye ... & if there are no grandkids etc., then why not ... you'd just like to think you would have no need, or better things to do.

I suppose we can't put ourselves in their shoes really.

Is that not a little like describing Bach's violin as being wood and catgut?

Pleased that Bolton Council successfully led a consortium to buy the most important pieces of Nat's memorabilia for the town. #BWFC
No info on whether they bought his lawn mower ;)

I stand corrected. Bolton Council spent £75,000 apparently. They bought the 1958 F.A.Cup final ball, his winners medal and the 'Lion of Vienna' England cap, amongst other things.

He did leave an estate worth nearly £600k (I assume to his son and daughter - but could be wrong) - If that's the case, then they probably shouldn't be too short, two years after the event unless they've gone a bit Viv Nicholson.

Wow. Really ?

I wonder how he cobbled that together, coz he wasn't especially wealthy for much of his life.

That said, I suppose, it only needs a decent valued house and that makes for much of that.
