Harmless fun ?

Probably should know the rules but nothing sinister going on here.
BOLTON Wanderers have launched an investigation after one of their coaches appeared to breach FA rules and bet on Whites to lose against QPR on Tuesday.
According to his Facebook account, Wanderers Academy strength and conditioning coach Matthew Dewhurst won £231.59 after betting £6 on a nine-match accumulator bet, which included Wanderers to lose their match at Loftus Road.
The 23-year-old’s win apparently became known when he posted a status on Facebook.
FA rules prohibit all club staff from gambling on any match the club participates in.
Wanderers said they were dealing with the matter internally and refused to confirm whether Mr Dewhurst had broken club rules.
When asked whether club staff were allowed to bet on football games, the spokesman added: “It depends at what level the staff are.”
There is no suggestion that Mr Dewhurst tried to influence the result of the match and he declined to speak to The Bolton News.
Mr Dewhurst’s win was revealed when he posted on Facebook: “Derby County, 0-2 down at home to Yeovil, come back to win 3-2 in the last min to win me £230 for my accumulator!! Buzzing!!”
In another post, he revealed the exact amount won and that Derby, QPR, Manchester United, Reading, Real Madrid, Swansea, Wolves, and Chesterfield winning their games, and Norwich and Newcastle drawing were his winning selections.
The FA’s latest guide to betting states that their rules apply to players, managers, coaches, club medical staff, other club employees and staff, directors and licensed agents.
In its list of rules the guide adds: “You are not allowed to place any bet on a game involving your club.
“You are not allowed to place any bet on a game in a competition such as cup competitions or the league itself in which your club plays.
“All employees and officers of a club are deemed to participate in every match played by that club while they are so employed.”
QPR beat Wanderers 2-1, inflicting the Whites’ third straight defeat.
Probably should know the rules but nothing sinister going on here.

They're not entirely stupid then.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Harmless fun ?
Harmless fun in my view however if he had of just bet on that 1 game then it would be different all together. I don't think we want people working for our football club who are predicting us to lose games though - negative attitude and all that.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Though posting it on FaceBook would put that into dispute.Lord Kangana wrote:They're not entirely stupid then.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

That's like a cat with a piece of butter-side-down toast strapped to its feet.

Nothing sinister at all but very poor form and embarrassing for the club. Won't bother the FA but I bet Dougie and co are pretty pissed off with him.

I know it's a different situation but I've a relative who works in the media end for a football club, who which he actually supports. He says the amount of people working there who actually dislike the team is unbelievable but I'd say they're not doing things like that.

Clearly Facebook will be this weeks major excuse exercise.

Re: Harmless fun ?
Must be a happy camp if our own staff expect to us to get beat and cash in. Worst thing is that we were part of a 9 match accumulator that only won 231 sniffs. A measure of our w ankness.

I've never got why you can't bet on yourself to win?

I think its just to remove any ambiguity from proceedings. Can't gamble on yourself, full stop. Goes back to the spread betting thing a while ago doesn't it?

That's the explanation usually offered, it just doesn't make sense to me. I can't see how it's any less difficult to not bet than it is to only bet on you winning. Not losing, and yeah, not on there being sixteen throw-ins in the first half.

Clearly, because you could've tapped up the other side to lose...Prufrock wrote:Lord Kangana wrote:I think its just to remove any ambiguity from proceedings. Can't gamble on yourself, full stop. Goes back to the spread betting thing a while ago doesn't it?

I thought these coach types were on megabucks and to crow over a couple of hundred quid could point to the guy having a serious gambling problem. Just cos he's a twunk, send him off. ![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

He's a 23 yr old academy coach. Maybe coaches the U11s and earns peanuts. Wonder who he supports?Gravedigger wrote:I thought these coach types were on megabucks and to crow over a couple of hundred quid could point to the guy having a serious gambling problem. Just cos he's a twunk, send him off.
