We need to stick with the lad and let him develop. Will do a steady job for us in the future.

Re: Adam Bogdan
There isn't and never has been a keeper in this country that has played consistently well'all of the time. All keepers are prone to clangers and bad form during their career. However Bogdan has proved time and again that he's very good at his job.I can't name another keeper in this division who I would prefer at Bolton in the long term!

boggers... extend his contract or let him go for nowt next year?

WANDERERS are weighing up whether to offer Adam Bogdan an extended contract this summer.
Dougie Freedman wants to keep his Hungarian keeper, who is entering into the final year of his current deal, but admits the club’s tight financial situation could count against him.
The Scot must now gamble on whether to spend some of his budget securing the 26-year-old to a longer deal – or risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Bogdan, one of only six players signed for next season who played for Wanderers in the Premier League, has made no secret of his desire to return to the top flight.
He has admirers both at home and on the continent, but insists he is happy at Bolton, leaving Freedman with a tough decision to make in the next couple of months.
Re: Adam Bogdan
Typical, he finally starts looking good just in time for his last year!
IMO we should only be considering two options:
1) Offer a new contract. This is the obvious one, but depends on what he wants.
2) Sell him now. If we can't afford to keep him, cash in. This new magical financial model isn't going to work if our saleable assets keep going for free.

Just so long as we don't end up in the Jussi two-yearly tooth-drawing saga.
As said, get him to sign an extentual or sell now. He still has some decent value but won't have by February.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Aye. Pru speaketh with logic. If we can't agree a reasonable extension then get what we can. Lonners is perfectly competent and I'm sure an ok back-up can be found if needed.

1) a contract needs agreement from the player his agent but also the financial bods in charge of Bolton.
2) Unless a club is actually desperate why wouldn't they wait out a year for Boggers to be available? He's not that hot a property. I'm sure we could sell him for a very cheap fee but that defeats the point.
Players hold the power now especially when your club is essentially broke. I'd just wait and see what happened this season, if I was Dougie, before committing the club financially.

Re: Adam Bogdan
I thought we had to comply with FFP Insano? Surely Boggers is on a more expensive contract than Lonners. Plus a small fee.
Every little helps...

Well if someone comes in with a bid you have to weigh that up.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I thought we had to comply with FFP Insano? Surely Boggers is on a more expensive contract than Lonners. Plus a small fee.

I'm saying that it isn't as simple as saying do a new deal or sell.
Doesn't work like that, both scenarios involve others doing something.

Well of course someone would have to buy him, goes without saying. But, the financial reality we are in means we have to offload the higher earners and get fees for players if we can. We can't afford to lose assets for nothing blah blah..

I'll offer you £25k per week if that's ok? Because that'll make you a better player than if I only offer you a paltry £6k per week.Bruce Rioja wrote:Wants to play in the Premier League? Yeah, I quite fancy having a crack at that myself, Ginge.

Well, to be fair, I thought it was obvious that it dependind on other things was a given, but apparently not.BWFC_Insane wrote:Well if someone comes in with a bid you have to weigh that up.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I thought we had to comply with FFP Insano? Not like we're powerless though. When you want to sell a player I doubt you sit by the phone hoping that by chance someone comes in for that player.
And whilst teams might want to wait a year, plenty might not! I doubt Chelsea are going to sit out for the rest of Diego Costa's contract to run down are they?
Sure, we might not be able to agree a new contract, and we might not be able to sell him but we should try rather than sitting around like Marvin the Paranoid Android moping.

Re: Adam Bogdan
i think it's an interesting question - and probably one that it's difficult for dougie to "win" either way..
if we splash the cash to keep boggers - then (presumably) he'll have less to splash elsewhere - and because we already have boggers - nobody is excited by the new signing and dougie gets it in the neck for wasting his cash and not buying a tipetty-top striker - after all we have lonergan and everyone knows he is much better than calamity boggers...
or... we don't splash the cash - but splash a smaller amount for a decent understudy for Lonergan - and then Lonergan gets injured on day one - and the cheaper stand-in turns out to be a bit gash - and everyone condemns dougie for his short-term thinking on getting rid of boggers for a pittance... the kind of amount we could not replace him for...

Re: Adam Bogdan
At the minute, and recognizing the second half of the season improvement Boggers made, I'm still not convinced that he's anywhere near indispensable, should he be looking for more than we're willing to pay him.
However using NLP, Douggie should be able to demonstrate.
1) The average salary for Bolton's squad is now much lower than it used to be.
2) Consequentially, it's for everyone to get on message with less being the new norm.
3) Therefore the positive action would be for Boggers not to let his team-mates down and sign for a grand a month.
4) If not, Accrington have put in a bid.
Simples.
