Intrigued by the desire to sell Spearing.

Before dashing off to start the engines, though, those offering to drive him themselves should reflect that
A) we don't have anyone better; and
B) whatever money comes in as his fee won't be spent on new players.

But beyond that, get your booing hats on and give him what-for...

I'm not saying "quick, sell the useless nice person", just that I would sell him for a couple of million. Not one player springs to mind in our squad that I wouldn't sell for a couple of million or so - particularly midfield seeing as we have quite a number there. We might even cobble a few hundred thousand together to buy a striker that knows where the barn door is...

If you had of seen the game yesterday he gave away the ball nearly every time he picked it up, in a matter of seconds we were dropping forty yards because he was trying to switch the play and either

A. over hitting it so it went of for a throw
B hitting it wide of the fall back he was looking to pass too resulting in a throw/ a Brighton counter attack.

The only good thing he did was mop up for Lonergan from the corner after 2 big mistakes in the space of a minute from Lonergan.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

^^ One bad game doesn't make him a player we should look to be moving on as soon as an offer comes in.

I would definitely keep him as, on his day, he's one of our better players and one of few players who can keep the ball on the ground and play it. He's had a bad start to the season, but he is definitely a good player and a lot better than Pratley who will probably come in and replace him. If Bolton sell him, it would just be a case of asset stripping. They wouldn't reinvest the money and we'll be lumbered with more poor players.

Wouldn't be asset stripping. If we sold Spearing, who is presumably one of the higher earners, for a fee of a couple of million, then from an FFP point of view we might actually be able to buy a striker with the ability to score a few goals from somewhere other than the penalty spot.

Is it more important to be able to score a few goals, or keep Spearing and Medo so they can get in each others way? I'm not so sure Spearing is so much better than every other midfielder that it is worth sacrificing what might be our only chance of being able to buy a striker.

Might, yeah. But we probably won't. I don't trust the board to reinvest the cash. How many good strikers are even left now, so near to the close of the transfer window? We've missed out on so many.

I think he's one of our better central midfielders, if not our best. It seems pointless to me to weaken ourselves in one position to try and strengthen another. We'll just be getting no where.

If a premier league team comes in for him, he will be off.

To think anything other is foolish.

Spearing has been signed for us for a full 12 months so obviously he's top of Freedman's list to loan out to Preston.

In fact I'm worried that if we're not careful Preston won't be taking anyone off our hands at all this window.

He is our best DM however poor he's been this season. But we have him & Me do. Both play the same game. Losing one is, I feel, inevitable. I have expected it to be Medo tbh. We have a capable Vela in need of exposure to develop. Decent money for Spearing, or Me do, will be useful.

My only fear would be that the fckg moron in charge would use Trotter more.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

One of the better performers thus far (allegedly).

I would sell him and use the cash to pay off Freedman. We are going down with this clown in charge and Spearing won't be missed.

Is Spearing in the middle of contract talks or something?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I'd keep Spearing. Eddie's happy to sell and not replace now. Better with than without.

Exactly this. If anyone seriously believes that any money from the sale might see Spearing replaced by someone better, or it even be reinvested in the side, then they should go and give their head a vigorous shake.
