Just a quick one..

Post by Andy Waller » Mon Sep 15, 2014 8:08 am

I know this isn't purely "Trotters" based but here goes...

Where I live, I can just about pick up Radio Manchester for the commentary, but it's pretty fuzzy.

i can listen online but it goes off when the game starts!

Does anyone know a website that plays the actual FM/DAB output??

Where are you? If you can get a faint FM signal you could get a clear DAB signal (strangely enough), have you tried that? Apologies if you have.

It's a worthy question but apparently even their DAB signal's a bit poop: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=681053" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm just outside Crewe so it's that bit too far for both! The DAB just breaks up constantly!

Unfortunately, there are no websites that broadcast the Radio Manchester FM/DAB football commentary.

It would be fantastic if this was available, as there's been plenty of occasions when I've been outside the North-west and wanted to listen to dedicated coverage.

I'm sure Radio Manchester would love to make it available, but they're prevented from doing so by the rights-holders, which I assume is the club, who sell Internet match commentary on their website.

Radio Manchester FM has two frequencies, the main one is 95.1 but there is another for places that can't get that; 104.6. Think that's for the hillier areas but might be worth a try.

Strange how it's dead easy to get an, let's say alternative, football TV stream, but a nonsense to get a radio broadcast that we all have paid for!

Radio stations aren't allowed to stream the commentary online, as the club hold the rights to it's online output.

The Internet has now turned into just another broadcast medium, alongside FM Radio / Digital Terrestrial TV / Satellite TV. The club has never tried to acquire a monopoly over any of those other media, but it has done with Internet match commentary. They say "only BWFC is permitted to broadcast commentary of Bolton home games over the Internet", obviously for commercial reasons. Surely they recognise this can't continue indefinitely? Does anyone subscribe to the official stream?

I'm sure some Bolton matches that Radio5 commentated on got streamed on the Internet... maybe it's just local radio that BWFC take exception to.

Maybe we should ask Gartside to explain this. I can't believe the club makes any serious money out of it.

The arrogant c*nt should also be asked why he is refusing to talk to the BN. It seems to be some sort of Machiavellian vogue for club brass to ignore local press these days as soon as they stray from the club mouthpiece role.
