Hill has done well in the lower leagues, he's a Bolton lad, and he talks the talk, but we've seen how this job is getting on top of Dougie. Hill has no experience of managing a club the size of Bolton, and with all the pressure that's gonna come with it, I don't think he'd be up to it.
Know what you mean but experience doesn't always help. Magath's managed much bigger clubs than Fulham.

Hill's far from ideal but we are very, very far from ideal. And I don't think we should even consider ourselves a big club any more. We're a club in big trouble, heading for the third division.
I can see the argument from both sides, here. Whoever comes in would have to get the best out of the players we have, though. When he was at Derby, Clough did the job Freedman has been forced to do, before being shown the door (unwisely criticising one of his own players in a way that suggested he hadn't wanted him at the club, if I remember rightly). Sheff United look reborn under him. Keith Hill's name was mentioned last time around - he lives in Bolton - and getting Rochdale up to 5th in League One suggests he can maximise resources.

First task, however, is to put our current lad out of his misery (him and us, I guess). Megson was hard-faced enough to block out the hostility. Dougie clearly isn't. I don't like seeing my club slide into the depths of this league, and I really don't like watching a hardworking but clueless young manager fall apart at the seams.
He was blarping on again in the BEN about how some players didn't want to be here so he had to get them out ... and he dud, and now he has an honest bunch whowho ... and I quote ... "turn up on Monday mornings".

He still confuses me tbh.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Absolutely stunned that we had that much possession. I hardly remember us even having the ball in the 2nd half. Of those three shots on target, Mason actually managed to get in the way of two of them. A seriously dreadful afternoon after what was a really promising start. The thing is, I'm now past being disappointed, I'm just resigned now to the whole demise.
I'm surprised by that possession stat, too.

The other thing regarding the possession stat, is that three quarters of our possession seems to be taken up with us going backwards and aimlessly knocking the ball across the back four, until they get bored with it and lump it back to the keeper to punt it aimlessly in the direction of some of the shortest players in the League to test if the can win a header against some of the tallest players in the League.

An afternoon that started quite sweetly, ends with a (very) bitter taste in the mouth - result: people's memories start playing tricks.

In those first 20 minutes (before we [a] shrunk into our shells then fell apart) Mason had two good attempts on goal (one deflected over by a brilliant defensive block, the other pushed round the post for a corner). Mason also (as noted by Bruce) got in the way of two other shots on target. Chungy also slammed in a low hard shot from a corner that was blocked and punted clear. 5 serious attempts on target - all in the opening part of the game. Next seventy minutes - virtually zilch.

No tricks, I sent a text to a Derby supporting mate on about 20 mins saying I though we were on top. Not quite as clear cut as you make out, they'd missed a penalty and Lonners, I think by then had cleared another as it was about to drop to them. Can't recall whether the one we cleared off the line was also first 20.

But my ST entitles me (or makes me suffer through) a full 90 minutes and across the full game, we were dire. To match your first 20, I counted at least 5 times one of our players tried to play a pass straight out of play and not particularly near any Bolton players. And we do seem to revel in the aimless play it across the back four malarky. We did this numerous times yesterday before an aimless hoof up to Mason/Chungy...

Didn't mean to suggest we were 'clearly' on top. Though I think we were the better side for about the first quarter of the game. My point is really threefold: (1) early on, far from being a bad performance, it was quite a good one which makes it (2) all the more shocking how badly we degenerated over the rest of the game and (3) all the more striking how vitriolic the fans' reaction was.

Those last two also suggest (4) we have to get rid of Dougie asap.

Aye, I suspect a lot of folks, yesterday, were just waiting for a trigger point, which was always likely to occur.

Like you, I think the time has come. Unfortunately, I think we're going to end up playing "blink" with Gartside. If the fans don't keep the pressure on, then it will have been a storm in a teacup..

It's probably the first time we've really heard lots of Gartside out chants, it'll be interesting to see if he'll say anything to any of the media...

He has to come out and say something now.

To remain silent would be foolish.

He'll stay quiet and try to make out it's in some way dignified and we're a bunch of pitchfork-wielding maniacs with webbed feet and straw in our hair.

Gartside could quickly reduce any pressure thats on him by sacking Dougie

Can't think of a manager that would come here. It's now a very poisoned chalice. The directors can't be arsed, the players can't be arsed, the bookings office can't be arsed, the refreshments staff at half time can't be arsed. There's about 14000 past supporters can't be arsed. Now correct me if you can but isn't this club knackered beyond repair? Remove rose tinted specs afore responding. 8)

I'll give it a go...

We have some reasonable players in the squad - certainly not a group you'd expect to be in the bottom three in the Championship.

We have decent facilities and training facilities.

Hopefully we will level out on operational costs (if we don't go down again) - our wage bill should be sort of "baselined"

ED whilst not putting shit loads in (which he couldn't anyhow due to FFP), doesn't seem to be screaming for it all back immediately.

:-)

The morale at the club will change quickly though. People said the same things about the Bolton job being a poisoned chalice after Coyle left, yet look how things changed by the end of that season. After Freedman goes, bring in a manager who can deliver good results and performances on a regular basis, get attendances up etc. and it'll no longer seem like such a hard place to succeed.

Agree!

Is Steven Pressley a bad name to bring up?

The work he does at Coventry is pretty amazing, and he is not the type that want alot of money to spent.

Bloke near me shouted "Gartside out" and the steward chucked him out...

He's become a bloody Dictator!

Embarrassing performance.. The only highlight was the bloke riding the corner flag like an imaginary horse

Just saw the picture of one of the pitch-invaders.

How embarassing.

Not the fact that he went on the pitch - the fact that he chose to do it in an unmatching trackie with his initials on the jacket.

Is there NO fashion sense at this club!
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Got himself an interview in the local rag though.

Not as savvy as the lad who went on and took the free-kick at West Ham v Spurs - he started a fundraising page and got his fine paid by a collection...
