So, who's up & coming ?
This time last year I was banging on about youth being given a chance. I especially felt that Vela should be given a look in, albeit I didn't anticipate BOTH of Spearing and Medo being farmed out .... and I did think Vela would be used as a midfielder rather than full-back.
I was keen to see Clough given some opportunities too. Plus Andy Kellett. Again I was remiss in not anticipating Kellett being sniffed at by Stretford and was delighted to have underestimated Clough's impact once given a go. I did think Ilieve nay have been a prospect too .... clearly Lenin disagreed.
Just to keep Enoch happy that I'm not a fly-by-night critic I have to ask why Freeman couldn't see what was under his nose ? Of course they WEREN'T under his nose were they, seeing as how he had the youngsters training entirety separately from the main squad.
This season, hopefully these 3 continue their progress plus a couple of the others ... Woollery maybe.
My dark horse, and I'm looking at cup squads and maybe the bench after he turn of the year, is Jamie Thomas. A 17yr old striker (or forward ?) who seems to have an eye for goal.
Oh .... & Vaz Te. THIS will be his year !!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

He is and his progress seems solid enough. Though at 16 he's 10 years off beginning to mature as a goalie ... so the pundits always say about keepers.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I see Will Jaaskelainen made an appearance on Saturday...

How tall is he? Thought there were worries at one point he was a bit of a midget (for a keeper with a 6'4" dad, anyway).

Difficult to say.
That centre half who was loaned out to Blackpool for a portion of last season can't be too far away. Could be below Taylor in the pecking order though. I had high(ish) hopes for Luke Woodland - played for Eng U17s a couple of times, loaned out to Oldham last season and he earned some glowing reports and a MOTM performance. Released by Lennon this summer!

Can't find any detail but this suggests he's not a dwarf ... though clearly still some growing to do. Still only 16 though.Prufrock wrote:How tall is he? Thought there were worries at one point he was a bit of a midget (for a keeper with a 6'4" dad, anyway).

if I'm anything to go by...I went from 6ft at 16 to 6ft 5 at 17. Didn't do my knees much good mind, they're absolutely wrecked and have been for a few years now
Re: So, who's up & coming ?
Hard to tell. I went from being a midget to normal sized from 16 to 17; a lad in our class was 6' in year 8 and never grew again.

Would like to see Kellett make an impact next season. League 2 goal of the season and a loan spell there. Lads got to have something?
Quade Taylor is the other one I think will come good.
You've also got Mahey who we kept after his blackpool loan. Threlkeld and White both yet to really break through as well. Not convinced on either, mind.

You are showing your age (I only know because my daughter has just taken her GCSE's). Year 6 is the last at primary school and Year 7 to Year 11 is secondary school.bobo the clown wrote:hew. ^^^ Oh ! Ta Malc.
The trouble is, give it a day and it'll be like you never told me. I've had 2 kids go through the whole system and I still never learnt it. Hopeless is clearly the same.
It even makes a degree of sense but .... nope ... it's gone already. You'll be the same I assure you. Give it a couple of weeks after your lass leaves.
