He's had a good career has Shola. It is more his age, and not being a great finisher (historically) that leave question marks. If he's properly fit I think he will add to us and probably hold the ball far better than Madine (which is NOT hard). But is he fit enough, that has to be the question.Hoboh wrote:Lets just wait and see, sometimes the right club/manager combo turns up, this may be it?

I've never been a fan of Ameobi's at all, but I'll back him while he's a White.

We either need a finisher to play alongside a big bloke in a 4-4-2, or a target man who can make a 4-2-3-1 work (like Cravies, Juke and prime SKD did). If the latter, he and the supporting players need to bag somewhere between five and eight goals each, as per the Allardyce era.

My guess is that Lenny thought we'd got Carlton Cole. That he signed for Celtic yesterday and then all of a sudden Amoeba's good enough is making me cringe.TANGODANCER wrote:I'm sincerely hoping that was about terms and not his current ability.Jugs wrote:Yeah. It feels more desperate because Lennon turned him down a week ago. Now that man is a true raumsdaughter... He can investigate space like nobody I know. The fact he usually dismisses it as a waste is neither here nor there. Trotter Raumsdaughter Supreme!thebish wrote:smokescreen to hide the fact that TROTTER IS STILL IN THE BUILDING!!!!

If we could get someone like SKD n his prime we'd be more than fine!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:We either need a finisher to play alongside a big bloke in a 4-4-2, or a target man who can make a 4-2-3-1 work (like Cravies, Juke and prime SKD did). Although to be football pedantic SKD in his prime rarely if ever played at the top of a 4-2-3-1

Just a thought, but looking at his career stats, I don't think we've ever had a striker with a better goals to games ratio. Just a guess, so I'll stand corrected.

don't we have any of those freak-stats players who only played one game and scored one - thus having a goal-a-game record?? maybe not - but most teams have summat like that lurking somewhere!!Bijou Bob wrote:Just a thought, but looking at his career stats, I don't think we've ever had a striker with a better goals to games ratio. A certain John McGinlay has, though I concede that Phillips did it at a higher level.Bijou Bob wrote:Just a thought, but looking at his career stats, I don't think we've ever had a striker with a better goals to games ratio. Just a guess, so I'll stand corrected.

None playing there anyway, though the trade was for a proper sitter. Would any of us traded a fancy pants 10 for Campo or Hierro? Oh no not I.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Indeed not. There are probably a few to be honest.Bijou Bob wrote:Just a thought, but looking at his career stats, I don't think we've ever had a striker with a better goals to games ratio. Just a guess, so I'll stand corrected.
Mario Jardel will be right up there at the top of the list. The day he joined us, his career stats were 267 goals in 274 games. When he retired he had 345 goals in 443 games.
Super John - 357 goals in 628 games (101 goals in 192 games for us)
Nat - 255 goals in 452 games
Andy Walker - (44 goals in 67 games for us)
Kevin Phillips - 282 goals in 660 games.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

Agreed. Depends how you define a proper sitter, I suppose. We had one deep and two "central", although Nobby would bomb on judiciously. These days it tends to be two deeper - if not quite the quarterback our Spanish legends played as – and one in the hole... which is *still* where I think Mark Davies should be playing, but there you go...Prufrock wrote:None playing there anyway, though the trade was for a proper sitter.
