Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but: someone's done some quantitative analysis on the division and given us a 38% chance of staying up. (Charlton: 11%.)

And Lennon blames players inconsistency for our defeat vs Huddersfield! When will he learn? I have never known of a Manager whom never once attaches any blame to himself for (his) teams poor performances!

Come to think of it I can't really remember any of them giving it the mia culpa.. I've only been watching since Jimmy Armfield thoughHoboh wrote:Behave, we've had a few!jonnycooper wrote:And Lennon blames players inconsistency for our defeat vs Huddersfield! When will he learn? Re: Bedsheets, Pitchforks and colours nailed etc.
He took responsibility for the defeat at Middlesbrough and vowed never to try a 3-5-2 formation again. He did then try 3-5-2 a few months later with the same predictable result, but still, he has taken responsibility.jonnycooper wrote:And Lennon blames players inconsistency for our defeat vs Huddersfield! To be fair though, he didn't try to take any Sammy Lee positives out of it.
May the bridges I burn light your way

I wonder if in hindsight we should have just stuck with Lee and let nature play it's course. Given him modest sums to bring in younger players and develop our own. Not chase premiership survival with new managers and increasing wage bills but rather let Lee see if he could translate his coaching into something more tangible.
Sure we would have gone down and everyone, myself included, would have been fuming at the time but now we possibly would be a stable mid table championship club or even a yo-yo side?

Yeah. But he bought lots of players for a total of just a few million that year. He was trying to bolster an ageing squad. Also signed Bogdan.Bruce Rioja wrote:Daniel Braaten, anyone? Not saying he was good, just that the mentality of trying to stay up at all costs seems to have cost us more than perhaps relegation that season might.

The difference being that Megson spent lots. So by then we were already on the treadmill. Lee was probably the chance to not send the debt skyrocketing and becoming more self sufficient.throwawayboltonian wrote:Problem is you could arguably say that about most managers we've had since him. I've seen a few people on here wishing that we'd stuck with Megson because as negative as he was he tended to grind out just enough points. Although I see your point it's moot in my opinion.BWFC_Insane wrote:I wonder if in hindsight we should have just stuck with Lee and let nature play it's course. None of this would've happened if we'd given a contract to Alan Ball.

None of this would have happened if we hadn't been instrumental in forming the Football League! Who the fxck let Chelsea in? We shoulda stuck with the Lancashire FA.

Lady luck shakes her arse at us. Hot player property, lots of teams waving £s; not sure if it was just the press or Reidy himself (or both) who were pushing for move but resist sale; badly injured in an abandoned game, succession of subsequent injuries, spend fortune on medical costs; uncertain fitness /reduced offers; 60k offer accepted (wasnt his contract running down); turns out wasnt as badly injured as thought (effing medical team again) goes on to play for england, win cups etc etc
