Where are they now? - Michael Ricketts

Allardyce reckoned he had a wierd metabolism which meant that he recovered slowly from exertion. If he made a sprint then he needed longer to get his breath back.

He devised specific training & diets for him and has his 'team' put extra shifts in on him. I suspect BSA was especially pissed at him for the way he dumped on us.

The training he's doing at Blackburn could be fun to watch.

not sure why blackburn are laughable for this particular item... it's a nice thing to do, surely? they're not gonna sign him - but they are giving him a leg-up.

a bit like arsenal did recently with Pires

I just like laughing at Blackburn. I don't happen to like them very much.

Hence the laugh. They signed Benjani, so anything could happen.

I reckon Ricketts was equally as mad at doing twice the workload despite being our top goalscorer. If only he had the common sense not to head down the path he did. I think it would probably be arguable that he is still one of the best finishers England have ever had, the proof is in the pudding.

I wonder if he himself regrets his waste of talent like we do?

I don't know what happened, but he was already on the skids before he left us.

Read here for an interview with Ricketts in a Middle Eastern paper. I know the journo, he admits it was difficult to write as the background checks he did revealed very differing opinions on the man.

Back at Bolton, the goals dried up and, after 37 goals in 98 appearances, the club cashed in.

"Things soured at Bolton and I was sold to Middlesbrough for £3 million in 2003," he said. "I went with a spring in my step..."

Not quite the scenario as I remember it.

How not, Z? Things didn't stay sweet and he was certainly keen to jog on.

"Things soured at Bolton" "And the Club cashed in"

Seems pretty reasonable to me..

I seem to recall it was more about him wanting to join a "bigger" club when Boro came sniffing. I do agree that we made a decent wedge out of the tosser.
