I'm encouraged by the Freedman quotes (in the context of doing his job at CP) about looking for the right characters.

Throughout the tenure of the last three managers it's always struck me that the players we brought lacked a bit of personality. Even our better players like Cahill have been more the quiet type, rather than people who lift the mood on the pitch and in the Club generally.

We have missed the talents of the likes of Okocha, Djorkaeff, Camp, Diouf, Nolan, Faye etc but it seems to me that we have missed the lift their personalities brought as much as we have their footballing ability. It feels like we have fielded a lot of dour/quiet players over these last few years.

HI Guys,
Just thought I should pop over from South London to give you some information on your new manager (TBC)

posn . . . last yr . . . Manager . . . . . . pt/game win% . games. pts
1. . . . . 2000 . . . . Steve Coppell . . .1.40 . . 37% . . 596 . . 835
2 . . . . .1999 . . . . Terry Venables. . 1.43 . . 37% . . 249 . . 357
3 . . . . .2001 . . . . Alan Smith . . . . .1.40 . . 38%. . . 163 . . 229
4 . . . . .1981 . . . . Malcolm Allison . 1.35 . . 35%. . . 168 . . 227

10 . . . .2001 . . . . Steve Kember. . 1.15 . . 31% . . . 59 . . . 68

And then I did a quick calc of Doogs stats using the results on the Palace site:

Which gives him

pt/game win% . games. pts
1.23pts...30.9%...81....100

Ahh they've got to the "He's shit anyway" stage of losing your manager.

Sadly Burnley ended up not being far wrong.

I am married cause I need a girlfriend,

I don't think that you will have tears, but I am supprised that you came in for him just because he won manager of the month.

I wonder how long you will give him, I really think that you guys need an impact now and I am not sure that he is going to be that.

To be honest I think Crystal Palace (the football club) were reaching a similar conclusion!!! They didn't fight very hard for him.

I have not said that I am just a bit supprised that you (PG) gone for a man that has not proved he is a good manager and I think that it is a snap desicion based on a short run of games, it could be a great choice time will tell.

If those stats are correct, they could do worse than hiring a certain Owen Coyle...who by all accounts is the best manager he can be at the moment ;)

Sounds like the denial stage of the five stages of grief :)

BUT I was talking to a Palace fan on the way home from Millwall and when the conversation turned to Coyle he immediately said "he's a decent manager" or words to that effect. I had to set the record straight. Point I'm trying to make is fans of their respective clubs know much better than the wider public so the mixed messages from Palace fans about Freedman have me slightly worried.

Hi chaps,

Genuinely not here to stir, but if you take my fellow fans post and remove Freedman's wins from our recent form then you will understand the results look a little underwhelming. To repeat what other Palace fans have probably said, we knew what we were buying into, so tolerated the largely defensive football. I would be interested to know what Gartside's rationale is as you may well realise from our forums, it is mystifying us!

If you took the last 8 games he was our best ever manager, allow in those stats the state of Palace when he took charge as well.

I think you are in a totally different position to what we were in when he took over, but if you klook at the end of last season we dipped really badly when we were safe and the start of this season was crap, so if I were you I would worry about how quick he settles in and how long (PG) will give him.

From our point of view we are not that bother by him going just not happy about his loyalty given his reteric beforehand.

We would be bothered if you came in for some of our young players though..

the endless pages of angst about it on your forums suggest otherwise. maybe it is to do with him being a club hero but if he was that bad you wouldn't be that fussed about it all. you only have to look at the posts made by your fans when the rumours first broke. those tell me far more than anything being posted now.

To be frank, this will simply not happen for a variety of reasons. That said, I was laughing my socks off last week when DF was favourite for the Bolton job, so clearly, I know jack sh*t about football and the intergrity of many of the people who work within it.

I have not said he is rubbish, you are always going to get fans that are upset by someone leaving, I am just being frank those same supporters were the one's singing Dougie out 8 games ago.

In all honesty I hope he does well for you.

Got nothing against Bolton or Dougie.

The only reason there are upset Palace fans is being a Palace fan over the last few years, we have been through so much this 8 game run and beating United in the cup are the only good things that have happened to us for a long time.

From his Wiki page (that may actually include cup matches) he has a 36% win rate at 1.37 pt/game.
