Are you happy with the new appointment?

Let me spell it out for you then. There are 33 games left to either win automatic promotion or get into the play-offs. If we can't at least manage the latter, then we have failed.... and yes, i would expect us to go up if we make the play-offs.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Am I supposed to find logic in that statement? Play-offs do not equal promotion...unless of course you win said play-offs.BL3 wrote:You must be fecking joking. There's still thirty three games remaining. There is much to fix and there will be a lot less than 33 games less by the time most of it is fixed. My opinion of course, but if anyone thinks Freedman is going to wave a magic wand then either he is the best manager in the country, or you are deluded.
Freedman is inheriting an underachieving squad, not a squad that isn't good enough. There's a big difference.

I have to agree that its the play-offs at least. They are not a million miles off, even in our current impoverished state. If theres not a plan, a target, some stick or carrot, then I see no reason to have rid ourselves of the last manager. There has to be improvement, or we're just making excuses for a change-for-change's'-sake. We might aswell have waited to run his contract down and saved ourselves a wad of cash.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

I thought it ran down in the summer, then someone suggested he had a rolling contract so would always have a 12m cushion.Lord Kangana wrote:I have to agree that its the play-offs at least. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I thought it was up in 7 months. Regardless, as shit as we were we weren't going down. Theres three worse teams in this league, even when we're not trying and unfit. If we have no ambition, then it makes no sense to change. We (and much more importantly they) have to have the ambition. If we're simply going for another round of restructuring, I'll see that as flannel. I don't think anything but the first team needs sorting right now, the youth etc is doing just fine.

Anyone who is any doubt about Eddie Davies' expectations this season should maybe take a look at this article:

Coyle’s 34-month reign came to an end on owner Davies' orders
Tax-exile Davies’ decision was a dramatic change in thinking at Bolton. Just days earlier, Gartside had lined up a new director of football and a promotion for Sammy Lee to head of coaching. The plan was then was to support Coyle – the boss who controversially quit as boss of neighbours Burnley to save Bolton from the drop two seasons ago. Gartside was even considering a new contract offer that would tie Coyle to the club long-term, despite their early-season problems. But then Davies, on holiday in Hong Kong, told Gartside to pull the trigger, and the chairman and manager finalised the terms of his exit on Tuesday.
Wanderers went down on the final weekend, but Gartside stayed loyal to Coyle. However, the potential financial hit of missing out on first-time promotion has proved too frightening for Davies, who has pumped huge sums of money into the club since he took over.

And I agree we have to see an improvement.
I'm also sure Freedman only left Palace for here because he sees us more able to match his premiership ambition.
We have a lot of quality in the squad, what we have assembled though is one without much fight or battle and certainly not many quality defenders.
It's certainly not an overhaul job, but some changes need making.

If you need to tighten up then maybe Dougie Freedman may be the man for you
The start of the season we were right in the shit at the back, we lost Clyne, Gardener who left and our captain Paddy Mccarthy was injured long term, thats 3 out of the back 4 gone
He bought in highly rated Ward from pompey and Darcy Blake from cardiff (who they also rated highly) aswell as Damien Delaney and Danny Gabbidon on free transfers.
Personally I thought he did a tremendous bit of wheeling and dealing there, athough weve conceeded a few, the back four are starting to gel and were very good vs leicester.
