Re: Dawson
I suspect DSB has nailed it, in that a short term loan (MAX 3 months) allows the player to be recalled by their parent club, but a so called "long term" window to window loan does not allow for that.
So West Brom probably did not want that longer term loan that gave them no recall option. And given that 3 months was the longest we could do.
It makes sense and ties with the dates.
As for De Ridder it was said at the time that Dougie had a different target he was still pursuing on loan for a wide berth and De Ridder was merely a "look see" in the meantime. Perhaps that target was Scott Sinclair?

Hm. Hopefully that decision doesn't cost us!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:You can – Stoke lent Matthew Upson to Brighton for the rest of the term – so I suspect WBA didn't want us to.SmokinFrazier wrote:Ah, fair enough. I was thinking we could have had him until the start of the next transfer window, which would have made a three month deal odd, but thinking about it, I don't think you can have those longer loans midway through the season? I'm not too sure.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:It's a three-month loan. We signed him at the end of January, three months before the end of April. Loans are either window to window (ie to January or June) or month to month up to a maximum of three months; seems West Brom agreed up top to let him come for the maximum three months. Compare our one-month deal with Southampton for De Ridder - extendable if anyone's bothered.SmokinFrazier wrote:I don't understand why the loan deal ends when it does? Assuming other teams slip up and we end up in the play-offs, it'd be a massive oversight to have let Dawson go for those crucial games. Maybe it'll be extended if that does happen.

I suppose this might be the time to ask:
'Where's this Chelsea loanee we're owned from the Cahill deal?'

I think my complaints about Freedman were right at the time but I'm glad he's changed things up. When we were playing one up front, I argued we should be playing two attackers instead and I think that has worked out well for us. Now all we need is for him to listen to me again about the defensive line and we'll be sorted

Maybe I was premature with my criticism and to be fair to him, he has adjusted things and got us playing better. I'm far more optimistic about the last 10 games of the season than I have been at any other stage in the year. I also think, whether in the Championship or higher, next year should be a lot better than this year has been. If we somehow did manage to go up, the turnaround would be miraculous and it's a promising way to end a season.

Re: Dawson
Fair question but I'd rather get someone good for six or 12 months next season. I can't see who they'd have loanable that we'd want to borrow, if that doesn't sound too harsh – one that isn't already out on work experience. (Lest ye wonder, Gael Kakuta is at Vitesse.)Beefheart wrote:I suppose this might be the time to ask:

I'd have that Chalabah or whatever he's called next season. Not seen a great deal, granted but he's supposed to have been one of Watfords best players this season.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Fair question but I'd rather get someone good for six or 12 months next season. Nathaniel Chalobah, midfielder or defender. Aye, rated. Wouldn't mind Oriel Romeu either but I doubt he'd drop a division.boltonboris wrote:I'd have that Chalabah or whatever he's called next season. Re: Dawson
Watched Dawson tonight to try see how he's always free in the box - he pushes the defender in advance of the ball being kicked - Unlikely to be given as a foul and by then he's already off and running, GOAL GENIUS

Likes to limp into the box at the last minute as well. Class act on corners. Class act all round to be fair.Athers wrote:Watched Dawson tonight to try see how he's always free in the box - he pushes the defender in advance of the ball being kicked - Unlikely to be given as a foul and by then he's already off and running, GOAL GENIUS

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

His presence undoubtedly helps with this: Experimental361.com's look at the effectiveness of aerial attacks in the Football League.

Re: Dawson
Freedman's building castles in the sand. He should've borrowed a player we could actually buy, like Patrick Kisnorbo or Richard Stearman.

Re: Dawson
Would it make me a bad and selfish person to want Dawson to have a stinker and then ring Dougie up in tears?
