Re: How Do We Line Up?
Nothing I said is contradicted there. I didn't say that it was the wrong decision or not made for sound reasons.Lord Kangana wrote:Lets cut the crap here, Coyle pushed an "agenda"? What kind of loon writes that?
Bogdan was an incredibly promising young keeper. I know, I saw him in umpteen ressie games, and he was the f*cking business. As good as Jussi was at that age (Jussi joined the club in 97, and took about 3 or 4 years to really establish himself). Meanwhile, Jussi is on an absolute packet and is stalling over a new contract (he always did, as he was perfectly entitled to), the pressure is on to lower the wage bill, Al Habsi is wanting away if he isn't given first team football... and Wigan are prepared to pay cash money for him. So,
1) We release Jussi (probably amongst the club's 3 highest earners)
2) We are £4m in pocket for the total Al Habsi deal, and have him off the books for one year of his contract
3) We promoted the most promising keeper this club has had in the ressies for a f*cking age.
Its pointless having a discussion predicated on f*ckwittery.
I said Coyle was the one who told fans that "young Adam Bogdan could be better than Jussi and Al Habsi". He said it a few times. By agenda all I meant was that many of those fans wouldn't have seen Bogdan much. So when he got a game or two and did ok after being told by the manager he was better, there was bound to be a "Bogdan in Jussi out" fans opinion going on.
My criticism is merely that Jussi should have played the games in the run in for his experience. That has been and gone now.
Re: How Do We Line Up?
my guess is that fans make their own minds up (rightly or wrongly) and do not simply take the manager's word for how good a player is... i'm struggling to understand why you needed to bring Coyle into this particular discussion..
(ok - I'm fibbing a little bit - I have a fairly good idea why you felt it necessary to bring Coyle into yet another discussion where he didn't need to be brought up..)

Actually I was just pointing out why the fans might have jumped onto a bandwagon.thebish wrote:my guess is that fans make their own minds up (rightly or wrongly) and do not simply take the manager's word for how good a player is... i'm struggling to understand why you needed to bring Coyle into this particular discussion..

If any manager says how good a prospect in the reserves is as soon as a player in the 1st team underperforms there will be people saying "should have played X".
Watch it happen with Odelusi this season.
Re: How Do We Line Up?
that will happen because fans have seen him score 2 goals - not cos Dougie says he is the next best thing...BWFC_Insane wrote:Actually I was just pointing out why the fans might have jumped onto a bandwagon.thebish wrote:my guess is that fans make their own minds up (rightly or wrongly) and do not simply take the manager's word for how good a player is... i'm struggling to understand why you needed to bring Coyle into this particular discussion..

It just seems like a case of 20:20 hindsight to me. We get loads of money in, get 1 high earner off the books, and promote a member of our academy (well, ish). That he hasn't worked out as well as was hoped isn't a major issue. It was a worthwhile risk.

he's worked out plenty well enough. boggers is plenty good enough for where we are - he isn't our pressing problem. don't believe the anti-hype!Lord Kangana wrote:It just seems like a case of 20:20 hindsight to me. Jussi was a high earner and probably wanted a crack at the top flight. Fair enough.
Al Habsi raised £4M.
Understandable.

if you're worried about that - try suggesting that Knight is not as bad as people say he is!!Lord Kangana wrote:I don't bish, I'm just trying to remain reasonable - the second I say Bogdan is promising I'm in for a reet shoeing!

Not any old fruit ones though ; -Lord Kangana wrote:Fruity ones?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Said so at the time, and I stand by it now. I didn't dislike Jussi as much as some but his wages were too high for the bench.

He's changed his tune since though. Reckons Ngog or Moritz nowChrisC wrote:Hall will be a starter because Eagles will be more of an attacking midfielder behind the strikers. Dougie confirmed he wants Eagles to play that role earlier in pre season.
