how so? can't we get him sorted? have boro got a better manager/medical team/fitness unit?

Get matches under his belt is what I mean, build up confidence, in familiar surrondings for him.

Clearly he's struggling in some ways, and like I say I can only see us sending him out IF we absolutely have to in order to bring someone in. I'm sure it would be preferable to ship Mills out but perhaps that nobody is interested?

It is more that we'd surely rather he got the rustiness and mistakes out of his system whilst not giving away goals here?

Surely that makes some sense?

aye - but what makes you think Boro are in the fortunate position of being able to give him loads of game-time if he rolls up and they discover just how out of condition he actually is?? they can no more afford to tolerate giving away goals than we can...

If they want him on a short term loan basis then that is their issue.

As I say I'm sure we will only loan him if that is the only way to bring someone in. We have problems at centre back so it is probably not the ideal place for Wheater to be trying to recover his form. If by some miracle we can find someone who helps that area settle down then Wheater can come back in a few months down the road having played some games and chances are slot in more easily.

Right now the focus has to be on finding a calm and commanding voice to go in that position for us, I'd have thought!

yes - it is - but if he is massively out of condition due to long injury and is a goal-leaking-liability - as soon as they realise that, then they stop playing him - or they don't even start playing him - thus making it OUR issue if the point is to get him game time. I don't see why you think Boro would have to give him game time if they loaned him... then he comes back even MORE out of condition than he is now...

At the risk of looking like a tool by quoting myself, he can get over his shitness with them. If we really can't get someone new in without shipping someone out, and he's the only one anyone wants, then for me it has to be done.
You would also have to imagine Boro have been watching him and think they can do something with him, rather suddenly discovering he's shit when he turns up!

Different circumstances though. They might have a more settled back four he can just slot into.

Which I suspect if we do loan him is what happens when here when he returns.

hmmm - but if, as is being suggested , he is massively out of condition and a liability - why would boro want to unsettle a settled back four and keep it unsettled so that wheater can gain game-time? I don't understand!

if boro are loaning him - for 90days - surely it's only as backup? in which case - no serious game-time - no gain for us...

I don't see how/why boro are better placed to fix wheater than we are - unless they have better coaches/manager/fitness experts/medical staff... points are as precious to them as they are to us - they can no more afford to piss them away giving wheater game-time, hoping he'll come good, than we can...

One in one out is good enough reason for me whether they get him fit or not. Something has to change in our defensive ranks.

good enough for me too!

but let's not kid ourselves that boro will fix him for us if we haven't got the skillz to fix him ourselves!

It isn't about "fixing him". It is about possibly him getting some game time, in a different environment perhaps one where the centre halves aren't under as much scrutiny.

I don't see that as being a bad thing. If he gains some confidence there then great. If he doesn't and remains as bad then we have to look at what to do.

But right now there will be more pressure playing centre half for us than Boro because of our start and because it is an area in our team that we know is problematic. They are not ideal conditions for Wheater to regain his mojo under.

we can only hope...

but i don't see why you think boro fans wouldn't scrutinise a player that left them for us - then came back on loan with his tail between his legs having not been a huge success!!

also - fixing/sorting - same difference surely??
