Ta DSB

Happy enough with the point

Interesting that Wilkinson was used over Mason.

Never thought I'd say this but I'm not looking forward to next week. Ipswich will hammer us if they turn up.

Teams are catching on to the fact we're playing everything through CYL. He seemed to be man marked all game with a 2nd coming in at times.

Darren Pratley, great break up play and full of energy. Final 3rd hmmm.

It's a clean sheet however we rode our luck at times. Out of the two teams Reading will be the most disappointed. On the flip side I don't give a shit and it's another point that extends our unbeaten run to 5.
If we can get Eidur and Chungy on at the same time I think we'll see a difference. Chungy with someone to play off with an eye for a pass and a brain should bring the best out of him. Just need to make sure we can finish better.

I think Eidur is a boost at the right time. The excitement of Lennon's first few games has subsided slightly and we are seeing some graft and grit now, which is great, but a class act could make the difference between hard-fought draws and wins. Really looking forward to the next game, first time Lennon has taken on one of the top few and they are in great form.

One thing I forgot to say in that report was that I was often disappointed (and irritated) with our passing, and Chungy was no exception.

It wasn't terrible, they were definitely trying with more awareness than of recent years, but the pass selection was frequently poor - Chungy in particular lost the ball four or five times by trying and failing to turn his man rather than laying off to a bystanding team-mate.

As well as the idea, the execution was often sloppy. One example, late in the game, down in our corner: Ream has a simple five-yard ball to play in front of Feeney, but he overhits it. Feeney, bless him, lunges to get there and manages to cross it before it goes out for a goal-kick - but the cross is resultantly poorer, gets cut out at the near post and within three seconds Reading are in our half, exploiting the space where Ream isn't.

That example sounds a bit like Huddersfield's big chance last week. Ream does a lot of good work but can be sloppy.

Looked a tough game from the highlights, lucky to get a point perhaps. Pretty entertaining for a 0-0 then?

The highlights seemed a bit more one-sided than the game was...
In those highlights Chungy made two pretty good passes DSB.

Who put the highlights package together, their manager? Even the B.B.C had us with 56% of possession? Not how I saw the game at all.

He didn't have a bad game, didn't always make the wrong choice. But he did too often for my liking, considering most of our play went through him. Maybe that's the problem: he feels he has to "weave magic" every time he gets the ball, instead of popping it off to a team-mate and keeping the opponents scarpering about.

The highlights don't reflect the way the game went at all... especially the second half where all the play was ours and at some points we were really turning on the style... lack of end product was a problem as the score showed but there were some real chances that weren't shown in those 'highlights'

As for Chungy, he ran the show yesterday and looked a cut above anyone on the field, but like DSB says he made too many wrong choices... it seemed to me like he is sometimes a step too many ahead of his teammates and have ideas beyond what they're ready for. He's really grown into this playmaker role though and all our best football has him at the heart of it.

Have to say I thought Pratley and Danns did well yesterday at covering the defence and making some good tackles and interceptions in midfield. Pratley in particular worked as hard as he always does but was also a stable influence in the middle of the park...

Feeney I was a bit disappointed by... he didn't do that much in the first half on the right and when he was switched with Clayton onto the left in the second half he did have some more opportunities but it just wasn't happening for him. He doesn't cross as well on the left and he missed a free man in the box on a few occasions. Clayton impressed me though, had some real class at times and looks like he can grow in a really good player for us.

Other than Chungy the other top performers for me yesterday were Mills and Dervite... they had everything covered and look to be building a really solid partnership together. Mills looks two, three times the player I've seen before and having the armband seems to have helped bring that on recently as well.

We can argue all day about those highlights not painting an accurate picture but there's nothing in there that didn't happen

We could have conceded 6 from crosses into the box that they won

That's a bit worrying

But we didn't?

It's like saying "If they had 47 shot and they all went in, we'd have lost 47-0."

We didn't play that well but came away with an away draw. We didn't really threaten their goal, but maybe that's to do with an ex manager who loved signing central midfielders by the dozen and couldn't see the point in strikers?

Christ, what exactly do you want??

Comment was made that the highlights didn't paint an accurate picture

I accept that we might have missed 142 one on ones that weren't included in the reel

Fact is, what is in the video did happen so I want us not to look vulnerable every time the ball comes in the box

We have 3 centre backs in the back 4 and I'd expect us not to be as dominated as we clearly were

That OK with you?

I can forgive Chungy for this personally. Now I know everyone lives a cliched 'play the simple pass' I sometimes think its a load of bollocks.

Every team should have one or two players with the license to affect the game by ignoring the simple things. Ultimately those players win you more games than they lose.

Nothing more frustrating than seeing a good player move a 5 yard square pass just for the sake of it. What's it going to achieve?

Indeed

High risk passes are often the high reward ones and sometimes need to be attempted

Especially when your team isn't packed with 'footballers'

What you don't want is high risk passes with a potentially low return
