Apparently we did and they told us to feck off. How very generous of the cash laden, grief mongering tw@ts!

But we aren't. .... & paying Liverpool more money to play Spearing (who SHOULD be able to be a first choice but often isn't) would be crackers. So even I feel that you're being a bit extreme Tony D.

But these guys aren't like the Arabs who took over Citeh. They will tide us over before they get more cash in .... or sell us on for a profit ... or we revisit our crisis.
I thought we signed Spearing outright? :conf:
We did .... but most bigger deals are done on the drip. Downpaynenr, arrangements for future payments, success clauses (if only), sell-on %'ages etc.

Cue DSB to explain the details of a typical deal.

Aah! I see now. You mean like the deal we did with Chelsea for Cahill?

CEO? Buck stops etc.

Stop being so bloody serious it was a joke Mr Spock!

Matters little what happens now this season, personally I'd dump all those out of contract next season, except those I'd want to keep in the stiffs, blood anyone who might be thought of as a prospect.

Giving Holding a new contract has to be top of the priorities list.

And if I were Deano, I'd be on the blower telling Lennon to start blooding youngsters like Woolery and maybe even Walker, especially if we get nothing from the next two games.

As Bobes says, yer modern transfer can have lots of structured payments - monthly, or conditional depending on appearances, goals, international caps, promotions, trophies etc. Usually happens when the buyers aren't extravagant and/or the sellers aren't sure how good their man is. It seems reasonable to me, but I'm always surprised when the structure has big avoidable stepping stones like this - if it's true it's £100k on the 80th appearance, or whatever, rather than say £1.25k per appearance which would garner the same amount.
I heard last night, I think from a pissed LE that the clause is triggered if Spearing plays more than 50% of the games in any one season. Has he played in almost half this season? Doesn't feel like it from the number of times we've slagged Lennon for dropping him.
Ah, cheers. Did he not play more than half the games in his first season after the permanent transfer? If so, wonder if we paid another hundred grand then?

Actually, they've probably done us a favour. I'd rather the money went into the Lennon pay-off pot rather than on Spearing.

I can see the argument that says save the money on Spearing. There's a pragmatic argument that says don't bother signing anyone new now and play the U18s until the end of the season to save on appearance fees. We're down, cut our losses, don't throw good money after bad.

However, and I like Deano, I think it's very generous to say that after all that's gone on, that this is a situation of 'won't' rather than 'can't'.

Shocking 2nd half yesterday. Why oh why did he not think to make some tactical change at half time? Could see the diamond was giving them too much space either side? I'd have just mirrored them and had Trotter/Pratters in there with Silva/Feeney on the wings.

Would it not be worth our while putting him on gardening leave now (because we can't sack him) and asking Jiminiho to do the business for the last 9 games?

The midfield diamond had been working recently. Ish. We'd been performing better anyway.

Losing Spearing from the mix destroyed whatever balance the midfield had. Pratley-Spearing-Trotter provides energy and bite. Davies-Trotter-Pratley provides some energy, but loses the destructive influence. Mark Davies has been a waste of a shirt recently, as has Madine. I've thought for weeks that we would be better off with a wide formation, but Lord Lenny has decided that, apparently, Silva isn't pulling his weight. Whereas Pratley, Mavies and Madine have

Lennon has shown himself to be the clueless twunt that he is, by dropping Silva and the subsequent reasons that he gave for doing so. He just doesn't know what he is doing and likes to blame everyone else in an attempt to disguise his own shortcomings. The sooner he goes, the better.
