I think Abs is really a Tottenham fan.

Boateng joins Bayern Munich from Man City. Yep, they've gone a bit cold on Cahill, but it's not like they're tight or averse to over-staffing.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Can we sign Cahill to a new deal then sell him on later when there is more of a demand? Like January when Arsenal is in third place in the table but suspect in the back as usual?

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Why would he want to sign a new deal?
He can get more money and more recognition at most other Prem clubs. So he's gone, regardless of whether it's now, January or in a year

Anelka did. It meant that we got what we wanted when we sold him, rather than see him walk away for nowt. I would offer Cahill a two year deal on improved terms and secure one of the most marketable assets we have ever had.

Aye but we hadn't spent the best part of 2 years hawking him round like some sort of cheap 'dam whore!
I sense a difference in Cahill, maybe it's spider-sense, maybe female intuition, but I can't see him going for something like that.
Hope I'm wrong.

Agreed. I am sure we are trying to extend his contract. It boils down to loyalty and self belief. If he's good enough for a top four side (now or in a year) they'll pay for him. If they only want him on a free then he might be destined for a lot of bench sitting - which I'm sure is not what he wants. Playing regularly here at better wages may not be that unattractive.Gary the Enfield wrote:Lofthouse Lower wrote:Why would he want to sign a new deal?

Anelka was one year into a four year contract when he signed a new deal. Cahill can be one of the most sought after free agents in Europe if he sits out his contract. He'd have to be nuts.

Hadn't realised Anelka's deal still had so much time to run. Still, the argument that clubs will pay for you if you are good enough still holds.Tombwfc wrote:Anelka was one year into a four year contract when he signed a new deal. As regards the free agent issue - no doubt it would be personally beneficial. We can but hope in this day and age that players will return some loyalty to the club that helped them develop into a PL regular. He'll not be scraping a living whichever option he chooses.

If he's good enough he'll get a whacking great contract whether he's a free agent or not.
I'm not convinced that the odd 10 or 20 grand a week, when placed on top of the-already-massive-wedge, should be tipping the scales for a player with ambition. He'll command north of 3 million quid a year in salary. with or without £17m changing hands. Balls firmly in his court as to whether he feels he owes us anything. He doesn't have to. But some people are capable of thinking beyond obligation.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Yet strangely enough, it doesn't say "yeah, but with Andy Carroll being worth £35m, clearly Cahill is going for a song".

I don't and I'm with LK on the Carroll deal, see also Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, Jordan Henderson, Fernando Torres and Cameron Jerome (3 goals in a billion games is terrible)BwfcDan wrote:We all thought that anyway.elfil76 wrote:And he is on the list of Top Ten Overpriced Transfer Targets

I'm pretty sure that managers, as a rule of thumb, tend to look at what Football365 thinks, and then do the opposite.
I know i would.
