Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Absolute myth.
Ream is supposed to be rapid. Dawson apparently has a flaw in his game which is a lack of pace.
Which defender had players get in behind them the most last season when they played?
Ream is a slug and I know what you said was in jest, but he genuinely doesn't get out of gear.

Yes, it was in jest. I suspect he is reasonably fast, as a sprinter, in training. But his speed of thought, of anticipation added to his poor reading of the game .... all on top of what seems to be a lack of downright, in your face, bravery adds to a poor player for this level. Any level maybe.boltonboris wrote:Absolute myth.

That said, DF chose him over Mills for the bench and, indeed, the final match. I suspect that says more about his view of Mills than of Ream though. Maybe he does see something in the guy which we mere mortals don't ... if so, good luck to him ... but I wouldn't pin my hopes on it.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

ahh well - at least it will be fun to see BWFCi defending DF's decision to pick Ream every week! summat would have to give!bobo the clown wrote:Yes, it was in jest. Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
It didn't astound me that DF chose Ream over Mills for the last game. More surprised if he lasts the summer, but my guess is that he's not on a great wage - don't MLS players only earn about $15k per year? - so DF would much rather turf Mills off the bills.
I do like the slightly desperate "he has started in 13 of his 15 appearances", as if centre-backs get most of their game-time coming on as subs...

Slug is a tad harsh, he's not noticeably 'slow', unlike Knight, Mills and Wheater. He is, however, noticeably shit, and no-where near quick enough to make up for that!

It's not the speed he runs at, that's the problem. It's the speed with which his head tells his feet what the right place to run to, is.

Dougie confirms what we already knew our transfer policy would be, "sensible, no-risk buys"

Remains to be seen what is meant by that, if it means the likes of Spearing, Dawson back I would be very happy with that

Without turning too negative, I think there's a slight risk we're applauding a meaningless brainfart here... but I'd rather that than the poison.plymouth wanderer wrote:Impressive, most impressiveTKIZ! wrote:Dougie confirms what we already knew our transfer policy would be, "sensible, no-risk buys"

I’ve got a responsibility to the club but, most importantly, the fans that this job is done right. I won’t be jeopardising anything by breaking the bank – that is not the way I work. We want players who want to come to this football club. I want them because they are hungry and eager to improve. Wages and all that doesn’t enter into it for me.
(On Alonso) Marcos took advantage of the rules, and that’s his right. I’m obviously disappointed because I think that since he started playing regularly he’s progressed but that’s the way it goes. I wish him well and thank him for his efforts but I’m not being held to ransom and we’ll pay players accordingly. That is the way it should be.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
To be honest I did wonder regarding the Alonso bit. Really, how close did we come to agreeing a deal with him ? I suspect, had we gone up, he may have signed another 2 year deal .... but once we didn't he was off. Not sure there was any chance him staying.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Without turning too negative, I think there's a slight risk we're applauding a meaningless brainfart here... but I'd rather that than the poison.plymouth wanderer wrote:Impressive, most impressiveTKIZ! wrote:Dougie confirms what we already knew our transfer policy would be, "sensible, no-risk buys"

If we can sell Ream they should give Dougie freedom of bolton.

I blame Wolves for appointing Jackett over Coyle. Selfish, sensible bastards.officer_dibble wrote:If we can sell Ream they should give Dougie freedom of bolton.

I'm sure there are some important signings on the horizon. For my money though, the best bit of business we could do this summer would be tie Freedman up and make him less attractive to the big money hawks that will be sniffing about in the not too distant future.

I'm sure there's still one or two that can't see the wood.

Don't worry I have this feeling he's going to Wiggin after Pearce's shambolic display at the U21sLeverEnd wrote:I blame Wolves for appointing Jackett over Coyle. Selfish, sensible bastards.officer_dibble wrote:If we can sell Ream they should give Dougie freedom of bolton.

I'll be surprised if he does, fans dead against it. Reputation is in ruins and rightly so. He'll need to start lower down and work back up if he's going to get anywhere.

Spearing to come back on loan next season apparently.
