so seems like Utd have given us Janko so he can get some 1st team games and Kellet has gone there to sit in their reserves as cover; rather than getting 1st team games at Plymouth or Sheff Utd? so probably not the dream move for him as Illes would have you think...? not complaining like...

Plus heskey and eidur...
We'll have to see how the young lads do, all sound very similiar - attacking midfielders?
Bannan I rate as a signing, proper centre mid. ALF also a decent signing - shame both are loans with a view to over inflated summer values though.
We'll miss Chungy and need one of the 3 to fill his boots.
Snd Kellett. Is it a trial or ishe really going for reserve team football?

I reckon any casualties are likely in midfield being as everyone signed seems to be a midfielder or 13 years of age. Le Fonfdre probably gets a start largely on the basis that he isn't broken and doesn't qualify for subsidised buses and winter fuel allowance.. Other than that we seem to have replaced Spearing with Bannen a like for like upgrade and freshened up the midfield pool with some apparently less 'workmanlike' possibly cheaper potentials.. Remains to be seen if we have replaced Chungy and too early to say who is in or out but at least there is scope to rotate a bit and secure a mid table finish before pushing on again next term after another full window..
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham

Funny old world when big club loans out so many u21s they have to loan others in. Suppose it's one way of making sure as many as their own players as possible get experience elsewhere!

aye - but most of the recent games under lenny - Spearing wasn't a starter... I'm sure we aren't looking to replace a non-starter with a non-starter...norm the jedi wrote:In an early bid for the 2015 'stating the bleedin obvious award'thebish wrote:so - since Lenny's arrival: incoming talent.. our last 4 league starting lineups have been as follows:
Lonergan, Vela, Mills, Dervite, Ream, Trotter, Danns, Feeney, Gudjohnsen, Pratley, Heskey
Lonergan, Dervite, Mills, Wheater, Ream, Danns, Feeney, Vela, Pratley, Heskey, Davies
Lonergan, Dervite, Mills, Ream, Feeney, Vela, Danns, Pratley, Kellett, Gudjohnsen, Wilkinson
Lonergan, Vela, Wheater, Dervite, Ream, Feeney, Trotter, Danns, Pratley, Le Fondre, Clough
so... Pratley's injured, Eidur is ideally (I think Lenny said) a subsititute
up front we're perming from clough, Alf, Cravies, Heskey (Eidur?), wilko didn't exactly seize his moment!
but in midfield... Vela, Danns & Feeney have been fairly consistently picked...
Bannan, Rochina, Slavchev, Twardzik, Janko
someone's place is under threat... I suspect Danns and Feeney will be the ones most worried about their starting berths... (also - Trotter)
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
actually - NINE players - as he has brought in that goalie as well...thebish wrote:so - since Lenny's arrival: incoming talent.. EIGHT players

NINE players since he arrived... not bad! pretty much his team now!

Wonder how he'll go over there. Not sure he'll be given an opportunity, which is a shame. Hope he gets a chance to continue growing as a player. Really want this kid to succeed. Watch his overall skill rise on FIFA lol.

As highlighted in a previous post, we're in exactly the same position as Freedman's first season with us.
That season, we were in the play-off places with one game to play. With this "besttranferthreadever" transfer thread and a genius manager in charge, you'd expect us to pi$$ it no?On 31/01/13, we'd played 28 games and had 34 points. In 6th place were Middlesborough on 47....we currently have played 28 games have 34 points. In 6th place are Watford on 47 points
The fate of our Premiership future is relying on your transfer thread, Bob. No pressure or owt...

Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
I love how Facebook has got, 'FORMER Bolton defender Andy Kellet signs for Manchester United' trending.
The news certainly took you guys by surprise last night!
A few seemed to think Jim White had gone senile.

Sounds like Twardzik and Janko are wide boys, so finally some cover/competition out there.
I wouldn't say Vela was safe either. Managers like to talk about putting young players in then taking them out for a bit.

Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
He's effectively signed for Man Utd U21s on season-long loan. They've loaned out a lot of their players so their gaffer - one Warren Joyce - needed a body in. As noted it will do Kellett's development the world of good but let's not gild the lily: United bought two left-backs in the summer for a combined £46m, so I doubt they'll turn to someone who couldn't displace Tim Ream playing out of position.LeverEnd wrote:Kellett has genuinely signed for Man Utd on season long loan. Flabbergasted is not the word.
Thankfully he's had a decent spell of first-team football at Plymouth, because he's 21 and should be making the grade soon. Hopefully he'll come back in summer ready for regular action for our first team.
Anyway, as far as I can see, here's our January business. Lennon describes Rochinha as a "Number 10 who's 19 but looks about 12". Another diddyman Bannan might 'replace' Chungy, but could also offer left-flank width. Janko has played "anywhere up the right flank" – including full-back – for the rags and FC Zurich. Six-footer Slavchev is a former Spurs and Villa target, former Bulgaria Young Player of the Year and already a full international, who scored 14 in 34 last season and was bought last summer by Sporting for €2.5m (three-year deal with option for two more) but hasn't broken through. And finally, our only permanent clinch is mop-headed 6ft 1in Twardzik. Signed (with his twin Patrik, a striker) by Lennon at age 15, he started as a defender but is now a midfielder; he's had trouble with soft-tissue injuries (out for 18 months to Feb 2014 with a variety of muscular tweaks) but is noted for his vision and passing ability.

Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
do we know if any of those loans have one of those "with a view to first refusal on a permanent deal" jobbies sewn in?

We might have first refusal on the Benfican lad, in the same way as we might have had first refusal on Sturridge.thebish wrote:do we know if any of those loans have one of those "with a view to first refusal on a permanent deal" jobbies sewn in?

It would be good to think that if one or two of them do ok for us, we could retain their services.

Fair to say NL has assessed his squad and started to shake it up. I'm guessing that all the incomings are in the frame for 1st team duty (except goalie), as not much point bringing them in on loan otherwise. Fair play to NL, with what he has done with some our existing youngsters and with the addition of the above, we are certainly shaping up to be a young, attack minded team.
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
Clough had his contract extended too.
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
Vela has to be safe. Along with Pratley, he's been our most consistent outfield player by a long shot these last few weeks. If he's taken out of the team for reasons other than 'knackered' I'd be fecking apoplectic.Prufrock wrote:Sounds like Twardzik and Janko are wide boys, so finally some cover/competition out there.

Only issue is, he's out of contract soon.
