I guess I cut him a little more slack than you do. He struck me as a player earlier on in the season who either hadn't had his role explained to him properly, or if he had then he didn't understand it.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 10:12 am
I don't understand the thing with Karacan. Yes he was awful, beyond bad, earlier in the season.

The captaincy thing is the oddest part of it to me - one minute Parky has him captain, now he can’t get in the reserves. Unless there is an illness / personal issue it has to be a major falling out- and we can’t afford to just fall out with players and cast them off. Like Bruce I think he was a victim of the crap system as much as playing poorly.

I say again, N'Golo fecking Kante would've been overrun in that team.
Not to say he didn't make some particularly shite decisions within it, mind. Seemed to lose a runner for a goal once a week early on.
Player in him though, I still think. Won the league with Reading, played a fair bit in the prem. He's got pedigree.

No idea what the problem with Jem has been, but I think he is a decent player at this level. I assume he was asked to play the Pratley role aka the headless chicken, whereas I see him as more box to box. A bit of an all rounder, ok in parts and better in others. I suspect he'd be a real asset in a midfield containing Henry, enabling him to play his more natural game. We'd at least have someone that we didn't have to bypass with the ball!
ALF has plenty to offer in a system that we're never going to play. We were never going to play such a system and signing him was a huge waste of our limited resources...I'm assuming he's one of the higher earners. Dervite is looking another huge waste as well.

Sounds like there was something in the Madine to Cardiff to rumour. And that Ken is standing firm, for now.....

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Even without hindsight it felt like there was more than an element of let's-get-the-gang-back-together in the summer renewals. I get the idea, and we needed players from somewhere, but when Dervite re-signed there was a lot of "Oh... OK".
ALF was different, as a goalscorer (on a free) who obviously loves playing here he was welcomed. Madine, on the other hand, was greeted with more like "Well OK, but we'll need someone better". Would've been bizarre to imagine that six months later, a promotion-chasing side would want Gaz over Glenville (who, in the case of this particular promotion-chasing side, has already flopped there once).
As for Jem: for obvious spatial and physiological reasons, box-to-box players tend to lose their runners much more than holding midfielders (apart from Trotter, who couldn't stick with a runner without the help of gaffa tape and a moped). As has been noted, Jem (and/or Cullen) could be much more effective if Henry is minding the shop, and again it's not like we're dripping with options: in a 30+ squad (Ken's numbers), we appear to only have two defensive midfielders plus Derik.

I wonder if it was Ken who's made the Madine bid public to try and encourage a bidding war? Would suggest that he's going if it is

Think story came from Cardiff side. It was in their paper yesterday that they were seriously interested.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 10:34 amI wonder if it was Ken who's made the Madine bid public to try and encourage a bidding war? Would suggest that he's going if it is
I personally think Ken will stand firm on this one as I suspect if he sold Madine then he might have a serious issue with Parky and I think he wants to avoid that at all costs. Ken still wants to keep the club stable and sell it (and he wants to stay on as Chief Exec or somesuch and run it apparently). He is desperate to repair his reputation in the game after the debacle at Southampton.
Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Aye, unless PP signs off on selling him ( e.g. someone offered £5m + PP saw a large part of the cash) I wouldn't be surprised if he walked. Would be proper throwing in the towel.

Given we're said to be making a 5-6M loss, if we got 5M for Madine then surely it simply is swallowed up.
And the club won't confirm whether or not we're in an embargo....which to me suggests....we might be. So not sure even loads of money would keep PP sweet in this instance.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
It has been noted that because Cullen & Burke have now played for West Ham, player-registration rules say they can't be loaned to any other club. The Evening Standard claims the Ammers will decide this week whether or not to keep the lads or send 'em back "ap nawf".
Elsewhere, we're being "linked" (by a spurious source, for now at least) with Plymouth defender Sonny Bradley, who's 26 and out of contract in summer. Oh and Lawrie Wilson has left Port Vale for Ebbsfleet...

Could that be a deliberate move to keep them with us to avoid being unsettled and off their games by moving elsewhere? I'd like to think so.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 1:57 pmIt has been noted that because Cullen & Burke have now played for West Ham, player-registration rules say they can't be loaned to any other club. No. West Ham played them because Moyes has a small squad and wanted to rest people. The biggest threat always was West Ham keeping them. There are suggestions Moyes wants to keep them for now.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 2:41 pmCould that be a deliberate move to keep them with us to avoid being unsettled and off their games by moving elsewhere? He'll want them for the replay before anything moves, I'd imagine

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Iles tweets:
"Loan signing imminent at #bwfc"
"Harry Charsley is a midfielder. Can play number 10, either side of the attack. Has played in Europa League for the Blues. #bwfc #EFC"
He's 21, and 5ft 10in. Birkenhead-born to an Irish mum, he has won 10 Irish U21 caps (presumably often alongside Josh Cullen)
Good write-up from the Echo here:
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/fo ... t-12619799
"quiet and unassuming... irrepressible work-rate... the [U23] squad’s Mr Dependable"
He says: “My favourite position is attacking midfield, either as a 10 or in a three but out wide is where I have played mostly, coming inside and playing in the pockets. I like to link up with people, make runs in behind, affect the game in some way, whether that’s scoring or making an assist.”
