Indeed but again I'd suggest there may be a difference between Elmander and SWP's attitudes! Not saying I know just musing there could be.Bruce Rioja wrote:But Elmander wasn't out of work on shit-all-a-week when Coyle took over was he though !?
But I thought Coyle's "thing" was to build up younger players. I just think chucking a million or two SWP's way when we're in desperate need of one or two permanent fixes in other places is a bit risky.
I'll leave it up to Owen of course.
I also think there is a difference between a 29 year old who has tried but never really made it at the top top level of the game and arguably hasn't really made it at the mini level below either, and the Youri's/Campo's of this world.
But hey if it happens we'll all see what happens and it can be judged as a move then.
EDIT: Thought it might be a laugh to revisit this thread from the summer too.

Re: January transfer window...
SWP's problem is that his head is fecked.
He was good at City-he was supposed to be the next big thing-so he moves to Chelsea. And never got a game.
He then moved back to City. The prodigal son returned. He was going to sort out the team, regain his form and bring back the good times. This was just before the billionaires took over who had grander ideas and he didn't fit in with them. So he never got a game.
He's told he's one of the best but never gets a game and it isn't good for him. If he went to a club where he'd be the superstar; a big fish in a small pond he'd no doubt really shine. From his point of view we're probably the best club for that right now. From our point of view I don't think we need him or could even use him effectively with Chungy in the team.
And for that reason alone, I'm out.

That's brilliant .... but I note that it's not been witnessed !!Bruce Rioja wrote:Crikey!

Gone off Wheater? Perhaps given the form of Knight we've decided Ricketts is cover enough afterall.plymouth wanderer wrote:http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/469749718?-11201
I'd rather we were being linked with centre halves and midfield players than the likes of Vela and SWP at the moment. They'd be interesting signings but the core of the team needs strengthening more than the periphery.

Re: January transfer window...
To be honest, I'm all for someone who can run behind a defence and give us something we don't already have. I would just prefer that person to have some end product. And possibly some ball control.
Re: January transfer window...
I don't know SWP or what his state of mind is and I think you are correct in most of what you said (Maybe not about his head being fecked though).CrazyHorse wrote:SWP's problem is that his head is fecked.

But it all depends what sort of character he is. Does he still think he has something to prove al la Djorkaeff or Jay Jay? Or is he happy being on the bench raking in the cash at Eastlands?
If SWP wants to go out on loan (To us) then maybe he is not happy just warming the bench. If we can sign a hungry, determined SWP on a reduced salary he could be a very welcome asset this season.
Our small squad already looks tired so I think we need to shake it up with some new faces. Are we going to sign anyone better than SWP? I personally don't think so.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

Would be happy with the extra body in the squad, just not sure that this chap offers us anything in an area that we are in need of strengthening.
Trouble with him (other than his prick of a dad) is that everything good he has EVER done strikes me as being done completely by accident.

Re: January transfer window...
i wouldn't be unhappy to see SWP around - but NOT if his arrival soaks up all the available funds in wages...
Re: January transfer window...
our lack of central defensive cover is a bit scary...
who plays there in the stiffs? and why have we not seen any of them on the subs bench ever??

Bennett is a decent prospect, and Connolly is still young but both could do with 6 months loan at Bury or somewhere to toughen them up. Nowhere near first team yet, either.
