Eh? I thought you'd sent Juke back, on account of the bloke only scoring 7 in 16 for us?
i think you're missing a key distinction... Juke may "score goals" - but he's not a "goal scorer"... Sordell might not actually "score goals" but he is a "goal scorer"...

see?
Well quite. Juke is not going to bag us 30 a season. But he looks like he'll chip in. We could seriously do with a consistent goalscorer at the club whether that be a striker or a midfield player ala Nolan. But I seriously doubt it will be Sordell.

If you multiply Juke's tally over a season, even taking some out to allow for a lean spell, he'd still score more than Nobby did for us. How is he therefore less of a goal scorer?

Well his scoring record for us was somewhat higher than his general average though.

I don't think he's what you'd call a "natural goalscorer" is all I'm saying.

If he can stick away 15+, along with another striker doing similar, along with a few from midfield and a few from the kids/back up strikers etc etc then we're in the territory of having enough goals to get at the upper end of the table. All assuming the defence don't go all Gerald Cid that is!

If we can get Juke in at a sensible price then I think it should be done. He's done well for us, he seems to want to be here and importantly seems to fit with what Dougie is doing/trying to do. If Boro want 2m then I think that is too much and we should look at other options. The chances of us signing a prolific goalscorer are slim. We can't afford anyone acknowledged as such and beyond that it is pot luck. Might as well try and get someone we know that fits and see what our youngsters can do, try and get Beckford doing more and get rid of Cravies.

Oh I'm not saying don't sign Juke. Sign him ahead of everybody else. Priority. If we can we must.

But just that ideally and possibly crucially we still would need another striker as I have no faith in Davies, Sordell or Beckford. And ideally a goalscorer would be nice, as unlikely as that seems.

I think Davies will go, loan or freebie/minimal fee. Sordell is the bigger problem. Beckford I think we're stuck with, unless we're loaning. If we can get rid of Beckford or Sordell, I'd have thought that would free up a reasonable amount of funds. Davies might fund a cheap loan. I really do think we might as well give one of the youngsters a chance up there too. If they're good enough, then they're good enough.

Sounds reasonable.

Nixon saying Juke fee is £1M.

I doubt we've got £1M as it stands. Who can we sell?

Gardner sposed to be going to WBA I heard. Just the Gold Bastards left then on his tour of the West Midlands. Unconvinced by him, mainly because we don't need anymore bastard midfielders.

Really hope we can get the Juke, and to be fair to Boro, £1m doesn't seem ridiculous given how good he was for us. Not convinced we've got it though, particularly given we'd ideally like to shift out Davies AND Sordell but also bring two in. Hmm.

If only we had the £1m striker budget from last year!

Also, I'd be surprised if other teams hadn't noticed how good he was for us too!

We didn't pay any actual money for a striker last year. Would have paid around £800K for Beckford had we gone up as I understand it....

Some points:

Brighton got 72 points and reached the play-offs. Their second-highest goalscorer got 6.

In the 19 games from February 1st onwards, we conceded 16 goals: only Leicester, Derby and Boro (all 15) conceded fewer. We scored 27; eight teams scored more.

I'd suggest we're more likely to go up winning 2-1 than 5-4.

I can't remember when it was exactly, but Dougie was speaking in the BEN months back saying he wanted a similar signing to the Spearing one last summer. Does that not indicate he may have some money to spend?

If not then I would think Dougie is hoping Chungy has the world cup of his life and we get some decent money for him.

Lets not forget that Juke is only 24/25 so the club might be happy to spend some cash for a player who could be here for years to come.

I remember the same thing, although from my memory it was more an "I want to make another significant signing" quote than "we have the funds free to make another ~£2m signing". We really need a Dougie quote database...
Significant signings cost ££££. Lets wait and see 8)

Nobody is disputing that. But "I want" and "I will" are very different.....
