It's early yet. Harry Redknapp hasn't been interviewed leaning out of his car window.

Keeping Clough is a coup. I'm truly pleased he didn't take Bristol Titty's offer. Why should he ? Had a lower ranking premiership club come in I'd have wished him well. But there must be fitness questions on him.

Anyway, have we managed to keep Madina & Dobbie too ? Remarkable.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Packed off on loan to Posh, who packed him back again. "Failure" might be harsh - with 18 months left on his contract, he could be our first-choice RB next season in League One - but Lennon always seemed uncertain about him, even signing another right-back two weeks later.
Very poor from Lennon that. I was at the game and we were shite all over. Wilson had a stinker, but he'd done pretty well up to that point and Lennon's treatment of him smacked of personal vindictiveness. If he'd ostracised every player the first time thay had a 'mare, he'd be playing the Under 9s by now. NL is the problem, I hope LW comes back strongly and proves him wrong. Under a new manager.
I'm not disagreeing with your sentiment, but it seems like he's ostracised a fair few players. With the amount of money on offer I think we've done ok transfer-wise, but something seems to be going wrong with man management.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:When you say £14m package, it could be much more than that. The transfer fee alone was earlier mooted as being around £13m. Add on a contract for say three and half years, and even at £20k pw - which would be a skinny wage at that fee - you're looking at £3.5m basic, without bonuses for goals, appearances and promotion.

F*cking madness.
And that's after spending £13m in the summer on Downing, Stuani and Nugent...

I know they're fairly likely to go up, but all it takes to 'do a Derby' is some unlucky injuries or just a lack of form... and then what will they do? There's no way they have earned £26m+ in order to cover this spending and avoid FFP sanctions should they stay in the league next season.

Yup. strike out Pisano and that's what we've still got left on the books. I think the liabilities outweigh the assets.

Derek is still around I guess but Pisano, Cassado, Prince, Wilson (& I hope no-one would suggest Madine or Dobbie as successes). Though tbh I thought those defenders were decent ... just never settled
Lennon on his summer signings, in this morning's BN:
It hasn’t been easy for them to settle because of what has been going on at the club. And a lot of it was last-minute stuff: I was trying to get some deals done before the window shut. They haven’t really settled.

Madine has done okay, Amos has done okay, but we needed some who were going to be squad-fillers as well for the money we were paying. You hoped one or two would blossom – and Prince was half-and-half for a while.

I think Derik will have a better second half of the season now that he’s settled in. But I am disappointed with the return some of them have given us, yes. It’s not an exact science. We looked at a lot of players and the money just wasn’t available.
On the fringe players:
They have got to show more if they want to play. It isn’t easy and it’s a demanding environment the Championship but some of them have been here for a few months now and we haven’t seen enough improvement in them and that’s been disappointing. It’s difficult to ask the players to keep going and going.

We have to create some type of siege mentality because that side of things is a worry for me. Looking at the first half on Saturday there wasn’t a particularly strong mentality about us after the first goal. The opportunity was there to prevail in the cup, move on and keep going. We rallied a bit in the second half and created a couple of opportunities but overall it was very disappointing.

And on the back of the performance against MK Dons it was all the harder to fathom. Talking is one thing, stepping across the white line and doing it is another. They have only shown in fits and starts. They need to do it more often. They had a good week, training went well and they were well prepared but too many of them let the game get away from them.
On the skipper:
Pratley has given me everything and scored four in the last six games but we need more like that to help us get out of this. He might not be the easiest on the eye at times but he’s effective, he’s getting goals and he’s driving the team. If we had more of his urgency and desire then we wouldn’t be in the position we find ourselves in.
On giving up when we go a goal down:
I don’t think the reaction is good enough. We’ll concede goals whether it be a deflection, a set-piece, a wonder-goal, it’s life. You have to keep believing in yourselves and keep going. You have to try and stay in the game for the next 10-15 minutes and steady yourselves. Heads seem to drop easily and we just don’t seem to manage the game well enough.

I don't think he did. The Ramstalk forum is silent about it. Last comment on his thread was on Saturday saying he was just a trialist...

I don't think we can. I'm not sure how it works this pro contract thing, but as he's still just a 'student' and we can't sign him, I don't think we can play him in the first team. But I might be wrong, or how else do semi-pro teams operate??? I'm fuzzily confused.

But yeh, if we can, why not?
Unless the answer to that is the reason why Derby didn't sign him of course.
