Can you please clarify what you mean. Obviously if we don't grab him in January we can't get him until July anyhow.SonsOfThunder wrote:Also keep in mind that Argentinian seasons run different to ours, meaning that if we didn't pick him up in January he wouldn't be available again until June.jmjhb wrote:There's no point signing an Argentinian defender in January except for preparation for next season, it'll take him 6 months at least to acclimatise and to adapt to the new style of play, etc.
I think Ferguson did the same with Vidic and Evra.
Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...

Arsenal will be allowed to sign Gary Cahill for £10 million as soon as Bolton wrap up a cut price deal for Middlesbrough defender David Wheater, according to the Metro.
Bolton boss Owen Coyle has offered £2.5 million for the centre-back, which should be enough to tempt the Championship strugglers to sell.
Wheater’s Middlesbrough contract expires at the end of the season, therefore he will leave the Riverside Stadium on a free transfer if no one buys him this month.
And with Arsenal’s interest in Cahill hotting up, after Gunners manager Arsene Wenger admitted he will sign a centre-half in January, Bolton will have money to spend on a replacement.
And the Reebok Stadium side will make Middlesbrough an offer they cannot refuse in the hope Owen Coyle can do to Wheater’s career what a move to Bolton did to Cahill’s when he signed from Aston Villa.
Arsenal’s search for a new defender has seen them looking all over the world and their main target Per Mertesacker ruled out a move in the current transfer window.
And now Wenger seems to have settled on bringing a proven Barclays Premier League player to the Emirates Stadium, with youngster Cahill at the top of his list.
Other possibles include former Gunner Matthew Upson, Ryan Shawcross and Chris Samba, although the latter looks set for a move to Gerard Houllier managed Aston Villa.

They're dirty, they're filthy, they're never gonna last.
Poor man last, rich man first.

Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
10 million would be insane given todays market.
No chance that's happening.

Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
Sorry I posted that question which had been nagging me for a while, firstly when I hear Coyle talk about getting 20 or 30 million, and on hear when people post stuff like "dont sell for less than 20 million"Lord Kangana wrote:You know, I've not been on here for a couple of days, and suddenly I return to find 3 new pages of the Cahill thread.
I obviously drew a conclusion. What was less obvious immediately was that those three pages consisted of "well, Gary Cahill is a footballer, so in theory we could sell him".
You set of bastards.
We aint getting a penny more than 17!

Don't know about actual costs, but OC is desperately keen to get Arsenal to allow Vega here on loan (Today's BN ). Could be Arsend is making conditional terms behind the scenes to get Cahill's price down.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
That's what I've been wondering. Arsenal are desparate. let's just hope the arrogant Wenger actually realizes it.TANGODANCER wrote:Don't know about actual costs, but OC is desperately keen to get Arsenal to allow Vega here on loan (Today's BN ). Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
The only reason we should negotiate is if we were to get Vela on a 18-month loan rather than 4-months, no point cutting a million off for a short-term loan.

the louder the clamour for him to sign a centre back - the less likely he is to do that
it's the same with a keeper...

Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
The thing with Wenger is, the more money he spends, the more he's expected to actually win one of the big trophies.. They're miles away from doing that, which is why he doesn't buy big very often IMO

he did buy them a shiney bauble once* - Andrei Arshavin - but now a large section of the crowd are shouting that he should sod off back to russia the lazy slob... I think Wenger is hurt by such ungrateful rejection of his gifts....
*(well after the transfer window closed - but we'll gloss over that for a moment..)
Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
Is this Vela who is talked of as leaving for 2 million in summerjmjhb wrote:The only reason we should negotiate is if we were to get Vela on a 18-month loan rather than 4-months, no point cutting a million off for a short-term loan.
Now, i'm not being funny, but if he's worth only 2 million, I think maybe a few on here have an inflated view of how good he is

Arsenal will make a decision near the end of January. They did the same with Wilshere last year.TANGODANCER wrote:Don't know about actual costs, but OC is desperately keen to get Arsenal to allow Vega here on loan (Today's BN ). Fact is Wenger and Vela have probably already decided where he'll go its probably just holding up because they want him for their squad for their upcoming cup games.
I'll be amazed if Cahill has owt to do with it. Coyle has said again today he's had no enquiries and that its not the right time for Cahill to move.
He's here till the summer.
Our bigger worry should be bringing in one or two players to help our wafer thin squad!
Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
nope - he said he had had no FORMAL approaches... which suggests he has had enquiries...BWFC_Insane wrote:ACoyle has said again today he's had no enquiries and that its not the right time for Cahill to move.TANGODANCER wrote:Don't know about actual costs, but OC is desperately keen to get Arsenal to allow Vega here on loan (Today's BN ). Here are his quotes from Sky Sportsthebish wrote:nope - he said he had had no FORMAL approaches... which suggests he has had enquiries...BWFC_Insane wrote:ACoyle has said again today he's had no enquiries and that its not the right time for Cahill to move.TANGODANCER wrote:Don't know about actual costs, but OC is desperately keen to get Arsenal to allow Vega here on loan (Today's BN ). Thats what he said. At least what Sky Sports are quoting.(asked whether Wheater interest was as a Cahill replacement )"I can assure that is not the case.
"I have not had any other dialogue with a Premier League club or from elsewhere.
"I have said before Gary Cahill is a top performer capable of playing for any top club, but I have also said that the best time for Gary to move and any other player in that bracket is the summer.
"If any football club is going to spend that sort of money he needs to hit the ground running, whereas in the summer he gets the pre-season and you get to know him and for me that is the perfect time."
So my summary of no enquiries and not the right time to move appears accurate.

ahh..
I was going off Wanderers-on-tour's report thusly:

fair enough then...Coyle on SSN just now, in summary :
1) Decision on Vela won't be made until later in the month (after 2nd leg of Arsenals carling cup replay AND fa cup replay at Leeds).
2) Cagey about the wheater deal although full of praise and neither denied/confirmed, sounds like were playing hard-ball.
3) No formal offers for Gary Cahill

Or it means he is not showing his hand.
