radio 5 suggests another 9 could go tonight. The two who jumped first may well have something lined up already. They've not asked for redundancy etc which is an admirable and rare thing for a footballer.

They weren't being made redundant. They were asked to take a wage cut, but if they were unwilling, they could leave.
Not sure where they'd stand in terms of redundancy, as the club were hoping to keep them on

not sure we can take on newly out-of-contract players at this stage of the season - can we?

Blackpool and soton were mentioned. The point re money was altho under contract they decided not to ask for anything for the sake of the club and folk working there on lower wages.Might have had no choice ultimately but credit to them for taking the decision with right intent. As I said tho the suspition is they will be in work again in the next few days.

Think we can if they're out of contract. Now I've said it the answer is probably in the term itself...thebish wrote:for one thing - we've named our squad!thebish wrote:not sure we can take on newly out-of-contract players at this stage of the season - can we?
As for the naming of our squad bit surely everyone else has as well so could they only then go to someone with spare squad places? This would I guess rule out everyone in the premiership.

Wylde is 20 so doesnt need to be on list. Curious one as we were supposed to be trying to winkle him away and rangers were a bit miffed at the time. Wonder if he can play on the right. Essentially they will be out of contract(I think, mutually cancelling) like the fella who just joined fulham so I assume they are viable to come and join captain coyle's titanic tits up party if they are insane enough to come

Wylde is 1) out of contract and 2) under 21, so he wouldn't need to be named uas one of the 25, so I think he'll be fine.
Rangers fans don't seem to rate him, saying he's inconsistent, but with a bit of promise.
I can see him signing a short term deal in the Championship.

For some reason (I can't remember if I have read it or heard it in the pub) I don't think we will be able to sign him until the transfer window re-opens. There was another player who recently had his contract cancelled by mutual consent but wasn't allowed to sign for a Premiership club until the end of the season.
I could have dreamt it though.

Did he play for a Premiership club at the time though? I think you can move divisions and leagues, but not inter-league, if you know what I mean

There's also a problem in that a player can't be registered to more than two clubs a season. No idea if this applies to these two chancers like and I can't be arsed to check.
Anyway, I'm fairly confident that no one will be joining Bolton from Rangers in the foreseeable.

The rules strictly are that he can't play for anyone until the next transfer window opens as he was registered to Rangers when the last window closed. Only unregistered players when the window actually shuts are able to sign elsewhere.
Given the circumstances the rules could be bent I guess.....

From the Bolton News:
Wanderers have pulled off a sensational transfer coup to sign Scotland Under-21 international Gregg Wylde on a free transfer.
The Bolton News can reveal that Owen Coyle has pipped the likes of Aston Villa, Everton, Wigan Athletic, West Ham and Charlton to tie up the 20-year-old winger, whose contract at cash-strapped Glasgow Rangers was terminated by mutual consent earlier this month.
Although FIFA still need to ratify the move, and be satisfied that his spell at Ibrox ended solely because of the SPL side’s perilous financial position, it is hoped Wylde, pictured, could be registered early next week with the Premier League after signing a three-year deal.
Coyle is keen to hurry the move through in order for the midfielder to play a part in the Whites’ relegation fight, and speaking yesterday, he hinted that a deal was on the cards.
“He is a very talented young player,” the manager said. “He has played an awful lot of games at a young age for Rangers. Without going overboard, he is one we would like at this football club. There is no doubt about that.”
Coyle tried to sign Wylde last summer for £400,000, but the youngster chose to stay in Glasgow to sign a new five-year deal. When Rangers went into administration at the start of the month, Wylde agreed to tear up his contract in an effort to avert job losses at the club.
It was reported that Celtic were the first club to make a move, quickly rejected by the player himself, but in the 10 days since he left Ibrox, it is understood that 17 different teams have registered an interest.
Reports surfaced yesterday that League One pacesetters Charlton had won the race for the pacy midfielder, but it is understood that Wanderers’ offer is now nearly over the line.
Given the right permission from the sport’s governing body, and pending fitness, Wylde could be ready to face Wolves in a fortnight’s time.

Cool tho I'm sure I saw something earlier(possibly taken from the mirror suggesting someone else had pipped us to him. Hey you can never have enough inconsistent wingers tho eh?jmjhb wrote:From the Bolton News:

Not too sure on his immediate impact, but as a long term replacement for Petrov than it seems like a tidy piece of business.
