woot!
Thanks Bish. See, it could be worse. Amazingly.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
Right another name to throw in the pot, Keith Hill.
He's from Bolton. Did well at Rochdale, first manager to promote them in 70 odd years.
He kept Barnsley up last season, despite them being one of about 3 clubs to turn a profit in the championship. Young manager with an eye for detail.
Not tarnished with failure or relegation. Bit more experience than a "totally untried and untested" option, and has a reputation for playing decent football.
He has a tiny budget at Barnsley so I'm sure would at least be tempted..........

Just somebody who you could hand a brochure of a brewery to, give him directions to said brewery, give him numbers of all your friends, give him keys to the brewery, prepare the invitations to be sent out, and then just sit back and let him organise the bloody piss-up. That would be nice.

I take it you followed the link to the iPlayer match highlights then?ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Just somebody who you could hand a brochure of a brewery to, give him directions to said brewery, give him numbers of all your friends, give him keys to the brewery, prepare the invitations to be sent out, and then just sit back and let him organise the bloody piss-up. Keith Hill used to live next to my mate at Smithills. Nice bloke, did great things with Dale (play-offs, play-offs, automatic promotion, 9th in League One - best in 30 years) before leaving in summer 2011.
Dale have collapsed thereafter (a sign that he overachieved there? Worked miracles? Didn't leave a legacy?) but Hill has struggled a bit at Barnsley (29.63% win ratio), who finished 21st last season after losing Vaz Te. Mind you, that's not far off their mark: they'd finished 17th, 18th, 20th, 18th and 20th since promotion six years ago.
I dunno. It would undoubtedly be a risk. As ever with such elevations I fear he may not have the command of the dressing room (but then again I'd say neither has Coyle any more). He does indeed try to play good football and he's a Bolton lad (but that's a mixed blessing: do we need to be parochial?), as is his assistant David 'brotherofGarry' Flitcroft (but that's also intriguing: Clitfroth is only 38 to Hill's 43, hardly the experienced couple...)
If/when Coyle goes, I imagine (and hope) Hill would apply. I wouldn't be against interviewing him. Depends who else there is.

I vote a conglomerate on a rota basis of The Wanderers regulars to manage.
Pfffft.

I suppose it would be the sort of risky appointment, a bit like when we got Allardyce. Can someone who's been successful in the lower leagues take Bolton up and do ok with them up there?
I'm not saying him being from Bolton is a plus, but it might help relate him to the fans, as some people evidently seem to think that matters.....

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
Interesting innit. Although BSA was well-versed in lower-league managerial experience, how much of our subsequent success was due to that and how much to canny playing in the big leagues - wise transfer policies and extensive contacts, etc? I don't claim to know the answer.BWFC_Insane wrote:I believe Hill is into sports science DSB, do you know?

Speaking of which, no idea if Hill's into sports science
