Now this won't be popular, but sounds to me like Kevin Davies is throwing his toys out the pram.
Just listened to his talksport interview. Not sure why he is 'shocked'. Surely he could see it coming, his wife's been tweeting about it for long enough.
He seems to think cos he's been here a while he's entitled to a new deal. Try telling that to all the long serving public sector workers who've been booted out without so much as a thought over the last few years. Bet they earned less in 20 years service than Kev did in a year as an average too.
You've been a great player for the club Kev, but don't let yourself down now. It's not like you weren't paid for your work......
Anyway, I'm gutted. Just give him another week on £6.20 an hour ffs.

Did he come across like that to you? He didn't to me. He came across as still slightly in shock at the realisation it is happening, he is leaving us. He didn't say anything out of order, & i would have been easy to given TalkSport were stoking it up. He'll get over it in the coming days & now the chances he'll off on loan at the 11th hour become more real. He really doesn't need to do that to earn a contract next year for next season so I'll be a little disappointed in him if that does happen, but at the moment I'm just angry at the failings of the club in communications. After Gardner you'd think they'd know how to deal with 'the testimonial question'!?!BWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... s/10314739._/?

I can't believe he's not been given a week long contract so he could get a testimonial. What a joke.

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
I'd like to say that we're improving as a Club - Campo was released by TXT msg as I recall by Megson.
Whilst I've defended SKD somewhat this season in the face of the general paucity of the rest of our strikeforce, I'm a little surprised at his sense of shock, although I can sort of see where he's coming from if he genuinely believed he'd move from playing to backroom at the Club or somesuch.
Either way, like with most Managers, Dougie needs to pick his own bed to lie in and I can understand him wanting to move on from SKD.
Good luck Davo, in whatever you get up to next.

As somebody has pointed out on Twitter John McGinlay had one (or the equivalent of one) after less than 10 years service so it ought to be achievable even without the 10 years.SmokinFrazier wrote:It's got nothing to do with anything. Gardner could have had a testimonial whenever he wanted one. It's just putting it into context. The blokes not destitute. He's been at a club ten years and isn't being offered a new deal. It's football, it happens. He's actually very lucky and I don't see why he should be shocked or 'expect owt'.Prufrock wrote:What the f*ckety feck has that got to do with anything?!BWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... s/10314739._/?

Anyway for me Caps is just about on the money on this one.
KD and his wife have shown their true colours to me today. Expecting a new contract through loyalty, as though being paid handsomely for 10 years isn't enough.
She will be back to slagging off teachers soon enough.......

In the absence of the situation being made clear to him Kevin Davies has said he's not entitled to one & has been told he wont get one. Fact.
Bolton Wanderers FC failed to make clear in their initial statement their standing on any 'testimonial'-like match happening, & have failed to issue follow up statement to clarify. Fact.
...therefore, they have failed to professionally manage their communications & relationship with the supporters (even if you wish to believe Kevin Davies was told something else). That is to the detriment of the (so oft weakened) relationship with those fans & to the image of the club as a whole.

Why should they talk about a testimonial before one is agreed? Kev himself said he wasn't that fussed about a testimonial. And he conceded himself in the interview that one may still happen.
Like with Gardner who decided he didn't want one the club could have promised a testimonial but then Davies decided against it, having found a new club. Then you'd have been back on here slagging them off for something out of their control as you have done with regards to Gardner.

Re: Davo - Sheff Wednesday
I'm blaming the club for a terrible failure to effectively manage communications at a time likely to provide great tinder to the idea that they don't sufficiently respect long-term serving players & the desire of fans to give them formal recognition. The desire to show something other than the $-focussed bottom line, to show core values.BWFC_Insane wrote:Gardner could have had a testimonial whenever he wanted one. What SHOULD have happened is they should have established & made clear to him that if he wished to hold a charitable 'farewell match' (or, 'testimonial' if you will) they'd be happy to agree to one & would be happy to talk about the practicalities. They then SHOULD have mentioned this in their statement. They've not, & anybody who feels the decision to let him go is wrong (I don't) now have a real issue to get angry about.... but mistakes are made, so having failed to do this they SHOULD have rapidly responded to the dissatisfaction out there by letting him know this would be the case & issuing a new statement in amendment to the previous one to confirm they're more than happy to acknowledge his service in that way & to put out the fire before it grows. They haven't. Terrible, terrible communications management & they should have learnt how to deal with this precise matter when there was such anger last year when it wasn't clear Gardner could have one (he was of course granted one eventually, whether it will take place this summer as intended is another matter but it's the principle).

Because the fans expect to hear their intention on one before one is agreed, & because out of respect to him it should be made clear to him that they'd wish to mark his service by holding one so they could talk about that.BWFC_Insane wrote:The club have told the Bolton News he has to request one.Dartisan wrote:You're the one bringing in speculation without facts though aren't you.CAPSLOCK wrote:And (apparently) he needs to request one

Communications is not in the slightest bit out of their control & failure to manage it effectively damages us as a club. Your final paragraph is meaningless given I'm talking about a declaration of intent on their part not the formal confirmation of a testimonial (plus you're just getting snipe-y without any real point).

I don't mean to be 'sniper' I just think a lot of people are happy to bash the club over their 'treatment' of multi million pound footballers.
What we want is to be successful, not clinging to the past in a horribly Liverpool-esque sentimental way. IMO.
I'm sure in the fullness of time testimonial issues will be resolved.
I'm sure the club aren't exactly happy that his wife has been tweeting stuff for several weeks and days that were clearly jibes at the club over no new contract offer. I suspect that hasn't helped owt.
