Schon, Thomason, Baxter all deserve huge accolades. Best of the starters and all very good.

Matete and Mcatee hugely impressive off the bench.

Vic looked better than Charles in that role for me.

Tale of two keepers today. Their keeper fluffed the important ones and it cost them. Baxter on the other hand was imperious and made the difference.

Good result. They'll finish high in the league this season like they did last so to not drop points is very positive.

Lovely jubbly.

Feels like there may be ref trouble after the match given Evatts reaction and how the ref was pointing around. Surely it came from Lolos' injury and the post match trouble.

How did you get to see that? I was watching on Sky Sports + and the stream cut just before Baxter made his save!

Out of the noobs -
Schon looks a real players. Possibly only criticism was he left Iredale exposed a bit - but note it was Iredale subbed. Suspect we will see Johnston sooner rather than later.
Arfield - game passed him by a bit. Can he get back to speed after a year off proper football?
Mcatee - looks like he will find space and work channels which we’ve lacked a bit.
Matete - thought he offered more in a midfield two than Sheehan did. Interesting cameo.
Lolos - Looked lively, then got knacked. No doubt be out for a month or so now.

The only gripe for me was our bench today. Why four attackers yet no centre half. I would've had Forino or Forrester on the bench instead of Dan. Anyway, doesn't matter now but I hope he doesn't do that too often.
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

No keeper either.
Not quite sure why nlundulu was on the bench, can’t envisage a scenario he came on.

Half way through the second half I was wishing we'd kept Jerome, maybe even Jon Bod. That Dion miss was scandalous. Most good teams will beat bad ones, but we must beat both if we're going anywhere. Not the best start, but the three points are very welcome indeed. I don't think their boss man was over happy.

Thanks as ever to JJ.B.

Yes the new players are impressive, better players than the ones they replaced - they need to start, I was disappointed in the starting XI, Arfield was played out of position & Iredale was shocking, Sheehan was anonymous, a passenger but the subs and Baxter (MOM) won it for us.

Matete & McAtee need to start next week - Schon was excellent, Evatt needs to be more ruthless with his selection, just play the best players not favs from last season, Matete is far better than Sheehan in the DM role.

It was nothing to do with favouritism. He played the 11 that was here to train.

He picked the team most would - although plenty will say Johnston should have started. We don’t know how fit George is yet. And they were a tall strong team - Iredale was the right pick on paper. Thought he was working well with Schon until the mistake for the goal but he got found out a bit after that. Still didn’t have Evatt subbing him for a wing back as a likely outcome mind!!

We signed these boys about two days ago Id not expect them to be starting yet.

However, we’ve all seen today the perfect example as to why Sheehan is a luxury at times in this league. And this system exposes that even more. He has to be doing a heck of a lot more midfield grunt work if he wants to play in this side.

That’ll do! Baxter is our saviour.

Why didn’t the guy aiming to break Lolos’ leg get sent off? The moment he jumped in it was clear he was out of control.

In this system Sheehan offers nothing, I take on board what others have said but I honestly would have started Matete & McAtee and Evatt has to start them against Wrexham, both are too good to be on the bench IMO. They both have that bit of steel & attitude, mentality that we lack as well as genuine ability.

We've chased these players as Evatt thinks that they can improve us, so play them, otherwise we are no different to last season (as the 1st 45 mins today showed)

Sheehan seems to get written off every time we have a bad game and then he goes back to being a key player again.

Matete could be the best midfielder in League One in the this system, but Sheehan will be just fine.

So surely then Matete & Thomason should be the 2No DM's in this system ?

Matete has hardly played any football in a year. He will suit some games better than Sheehan, but he will also need patience.

We have a lot of good players. They will all get a chance to stake a claim.

I hope that Lolos is ok, I think that he also has something about him - looks decent, shocking tackle that should have been a red card.
