Yes - sorry - I wasn't suggesting we weren't weaker - like Pru says, I was suggeting we hadn't "weakened ourselves"..
Oh, I got it. I wasn't referencing you, but Insane isn't the only person suggesting we should somehow have just paused deals that didn't seem to be particularly "pauseable" and if not just keep players we don't want on good wages for the sake of bodies in a couple of games.

It's a ridiculous suggestion that we could have somehow called off the Dapo exit at the 11th hour.

Stopping a short term loan at that stage because there's suddenly need for that player in your team would be viewed poorly enough in footballing circles - canning a permanent exit for a player who is going out of the country, has already agreed terms with the incoming club and has likely already organised leases on accommodation would be ludicrous.

The only sure thing is that it would have pissed off both St Pauli and Dapo, who likely wouldn't have wanted to play for us in that scenario anyway. It's also likely to have alienated any agents involved in the deal on both sides.

The idea that it could have been done is Football Manager fantasy bullshit.

A rumour from an actual proper journalist :D

Okay another loan but I think this would be a very exciting signing.

Happens all the time though. We had a player medical done. Desperate to sign. Stayed in hotel overnight to complete paperwork next day. Parent club had an injury. Deal off. It’s not like it doesn’t happen all the time it does.

The number of times we’ve heard an injury to a clubs player means they suddenly want to delay on a sale is very numerous.

I mean lining it up with an incoming works either way. It’s not like Dapo leaving was a surprise. It was bubbling away all January.

Anyhow we are where we are.

But we need two strikers and one of those is said to be on loan. It’s going to then be two loans miss out each time. Not sure this one makes sense. Unless beck goes back and we are excluding shoretire or Nlundulu from squads….

Some may say that we're going to be top heavy with loans but could this be a case of better to have too many rather than not enough? I think Evatt is covering his bases due to the recent run of injuries.

Bradley is due a suspension soon, Dan is injured and Randy knackered. It could actually motivate the loanees to work harder to get in the matchday squad. No bad thing surely?

Interesting, is that common knowledge?

I guess Beck will either go back to Liverpool or just won’t be involved in match day squads much. Devine could play 10, freeing up Shoretire to play CF which I think he might have done a bit at United. Not ideal I know but it’s an option.

We’re obviously going to have to juggle some things and be a bit clever with what we do. I trust Markham and co to get it right.

No idea if the Devine thing is right (we have watched him, along with Scarlett and others), but if the loan you mean is the one I think it could be possible that becomes us buying the player out early and we do this one.

My personal feeling when I saw the story was that we'd have asked after him in case we didn't get Shoretire, but trying to make it make sense you sort of can.

Iles is reporting that we're back in for Eaves.

Aye. No talk of a loan, either. So we're wait for him to get over a bad hamstring and then presumably offering him 18 months? I do wonder how much of this season he'll be fully fit for.

3 years on his contract….just back from hamstring injury. A permanent deal would be some surprise and unless the lad takes a huge hit would be probably our biggest deal yet.

I’ve heard we are or were also considering Wickham btw….

As long as he’s fit enough to avoid an Accringtonian insurrection.

Talk of Wickham is a bit concerning to me as it points to just how desperate we are. The only reason he didn’t get injured at Forest Green is because he didn’t do any work off the ball. Not ideal.

Yeah, but Rotherham seem to want out. He was a Paul Warne signing and is very definitely out of favour with the new regime. I was expecting a loan, but am told that a permanent transfer wouldn't come with much cost.

Wickham doesn't shock me. Would hopefully be a similar deal to the one he signed at FGR if he did come, but heard nothing of it.

Might also point to the fact that Derby have revived their interest in loaning Eaves. I want Evatt to get who he wants, so I should probably say "Oh no! I hope not!"

I can easily make a case for Eaves being a really good signing, but I worry about it.

But by the same token you could say that Warne knows his onions and Eaves could probably be a good signing :D so lets stick it to Derby if we can mess with their plans.

Eaves or wickham both scream absolute bottom of the barrel desperation to me sadly.

And I think that’s where we are a bit by all accounts.

What do you mean by this? I thought you said the other day you had no insider information from the club, so whose accounts would these be?

Is pretty much why I'm happy with only one if they're someone we really want. Or a second loan and just manage it. Don't want to be committed to 18 months in a part of the pitch that's costs more for someone who might be 5th choice..

I'm not at all enthused by Wickham or Eaves.

I was promised excitement!
