surely not? Even Newcastle are not so daft as to spunk £12mill on a player who is on a free in 6months time?? are they???
having elmander in your team is like having three Nolans*...

(*or even - the Nolan sisters)

scored as many goals as Elmo this season not bad for a useless lump. Nobby will always get goals can't say the same for Elmo.Worthy4England wrote:They were daft enough to spunk £4m? on that useless lump Nolan and look where that's got them.thebish wrote:£12million???????

in the BeN Coyle prepares the ground for no new faces actually arriving - and busts the myth that he had a bag of magic fairy dust..... (well - either he never had it or it's now run out..)

Bothroyd???
Elsewhere at St Andrews, Alex McLeish’s efforts to sign Newcastle United forward Shola Ameobi has also been rebuffed by their league counterparts. Birmingham will now turn their attentions on Cardiff City star Jay Bothroyd, who has been linked with moves to St James’ Park, Fulham, Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland. (The Sun)

Its easy to lose perspective sometimes, but I like that he's not minamilising the poor efforts on Monday. He's said it exactly as it is, and I think we need a bit of that.
Sometimes with Coyle his drive to retain "positive" thinking gets in the way a bit for me. Its good that sometimes he can come out and not sugar coat!

Don't mention kippers. Mrs DSB had them this morning. Smoke alarms and general pervasive stench. I had to pebbledash the grill.

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has dismissed reports suggesting Premier League strugglers West Ham United have made a bid for Darren Pratley.
The highly-rated midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and suspended talks last August to focus on his football.
Pratley, 25, has also been linked with Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.
"We've had no offers for Darren Pratley from West Ham or any other club during the transfer window," said Jenkins.
London-born Pratley was Swansea's top scorer last season with seven goals and has made 183 league and cup appearances since arriving from Fulham for £100,000 in June 2006.

For talks, as i read it.
Re: January transfer window...
Vela would add to our squad no question, would quite like to see him up front with Elmander.
That said, I really don't see him getting much pitch time. Davies won't be dropped, everyone loves him and he's captain...and likewise Coyle won't drop Elmander, not when he's trying to get him to sign a new contract.
I can see him coming to us though, Wenger clears has a fondness for Coyle and it's obvious to anyone that Coyle (and Bolton) brough Wilshere on in terms of development.

Re: January transfer window...
SWP rumours again! From goal.com
Bolton Wanderers have emerged as the leaders in the race to sign Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester City having re-entered into discussions with the England international's club, according to The Times.
Fulham looked to be the most likely destination for the winger, as Goal.com UK reported earlier in the month, but they have brought in Chelsea youngster Gael Kakuta on loan which looks to have ended their interest in Wright-Phillips.
Cottagers boss Mark Hughes said yesterday of the situation: “We've enquired but it seems like it's becoming more and more difficult. There are a lot of things being put in our way to prevent that.”
It is thought that Wright-Phillips was in the stands for Bolton's clash with his former team Chelsea on Monday night and he is also thought to be a fan of the brand of football Owen Coyle has introduced at the Reebok Stadium.
Wages could prove to be an issue for the Lancashire side, as they have been the stumbling block for Fulham and other interested party Newcastle United.
None of his suitors are willing to match his £65,000-a-week wages and are only willing to venture into the £45,000 territory. City would also prefer a club to buy their man permanently, but a loan move is preferred by Bolton.

Re: January transfer window...
Vela and SWP would add to our collection of lightweight flair players. I'd still like to see a solid midfield partner for Holden who has a bit more of an alround game than our current options.I think Coyle will drop Davies and or Elmo if he has genuine options to come in.Both look tired and lacking in confidence and it's a good 2 months since they clicked in any real manner.Slow to the ball and lacking mobility at present,as is Klasnic. You'd assume SWP and or Vela could at least offer movement and pace if he plays them down the middle.

Re: January transfer window...
i think the club is too smart to spunk 65k or even 45k on wages for somebody like SWP, so unless a compromise can be reached then it aint gonna happen, in fact i dont think anyone will touch him for that kind of money for a loan deal and certainly not permanently , given that he's no longer on top of his game shall we say.
So, the lad will have to have a good think in the summer about how much he really wants first team football.
